Our Sleights holiday cottages are ideal if you want easy access to the North York Moors and coast on your Yorkshire holiday. Sleights, pronounced to rhyme with “heights”, is a large village with easy access to Whitby which is just four miles away. As such, there is a general store, a pub at both ends of the village, a fish and chip restaurant and take-away, Botham's the Baker's and award-winning butcher, Radfords. The, “River Gardens” by the river Esk is a garden centre with a tea room and you can hire a boat there to row or canoe along the River Esk. Fishing for salmon is possible by purchasing a permit (01947 604 658). In nearby Ruswarp, a little further along the beautiful Esk Valley, you can take a ride on a miniature railway and there is boat hire available.
Our Sleights cottages make day trips to Whitby easy, there is a regular bus service to Whitby, or if you are taking your own car, you will pass the Park and Ride which means you can avoid having to find a parking space in the town between Easter and the end of October. The bus service also runs into the North York Moors National Park, taking in popular villages such as Goathland which was the location for the TV series Heartbeat and where you can catch the North Yorkshire Moors Railway to Pickering.
