The seaside town of Whitby, with its Blue Flag beaches and delicious fish and chips, is one to head to if you like your holidays traditional. Split into two parts by the River Esk, you’ll find a variety of things to do on both sides of the river, including the ruined 13th-century Gothic Whitby Abbey.
