Holiday cottages and accommodation in Runswick Bay
Said to be one of the Yorkshire Coast’s prettiest destinations, Runswick Bay is a small village nestled at the northern end of a sweeping, sheltered bay. Just 8.5 miles from Whitby, this hidden idyll is home to tiny white-washed cottages with red roofs that tumble down the cliffside to the sea. Because this coastal village is less well known than some of its popular North Yorkshire neighbours, such as Staithes, Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay and Sandsend, it retains a more peaceful and timeless atmosphere with fewer crowds.
The sheltered golden beach is a family favourite - fossils are frequently washed ashore and there are small rock pools to explore at either end of the sand. Fishing and pleasure boats are also available. When you’re feeling peckish, there is a café and friendly local pub in the village where you can sit outside in the sunshine and admire the ocean views. And nestling on the seafront at the end of the village, is the old coastguard's cottage, one of the last thatched cottages on the Yorkshire Coast.
Stay in one of our self-catering Runswick Bay cottages and you will have the perfect base from which to explore the unspoilt coastline. Located on the Cleveland Way National Trail, there are lovely coastal walks north and south of the village, with breathtaking views from Kettleness. Many of our Yorkshire holiday cottages in Runswick Bay feature cosy open fires to snuggle up by in the winter and enclosed gardens where you can enjoy the sea views in the summertime.
