Slip into a slower pace of life in this characterful retreat for two on the rugged North Yorkshire coast. The cottage is in the quaint hamlet of Port Mulgrave, which boasts dramatic coastal scenery and is the perfect base for outdoor enthusiasts. Enjoy clifftop hikes to the nearby village of Staithes (1.5 miles), or head deep into the North York Moors to explore the heather-clad moorland and pretty Yorkshire villages. In the evenings, share a bottle of wine in front of the roaring wood burner.
External stone steps lead up to the attractive, stone holiday home. Inside, you’ll find a cute kitchen area set under a sky light and striking exposed beams. From here, move through to the open-plan, studio-style lounge/bedroom/diner with its impressive vaulted ceiling, exposed trusses, and far-reaching coastal views. Enjoy romantic dinners at the table for two, before snuggling up on the leather sofa to watch a film on the Smart TV/DVD and warm your toes by the cosy wood burner. At the far end, cleverly partitioned from the rest of the room, is an antique-style double bed with relaxing sea views. A separate bathroom rounds off this beautiful retreat. Outside, you’ll have a choice of dining areas in the shared courtyard and garden.
Just 1.5 miles along the coast is the colourful fishing village of Staithes, with its idyllic, whitewashed cottages and narrow, cobbled streets. The village is a magnet for artists, and you’ll find several galleries and studios here showcasing local talent. Staithes also has a great range of cafes and pubs to refuel in after a long coastal walk. Heading south, take a day trip to the seaside town of Whitby (9.5 miles), known for its spectacular gothic architecture, sandy beaches, and delicious seafood.
