  • A pretty, imaginatively updated stone cottage dating back to 1740
  • Originally built as a stable for the local manor house
  • Featuring traditional timber beams and a lovely summer house

Property code: OC-WA004

Enjoying a scenic spot in the picture-postcard village of Sleights, this 18th-century home is a wonderful retreat for couples and families. Experience the breathtaking beauty of the surrounding Esk Valley, with its windswept moors and heather-hued hills, before cosying up in the cottage’s traditional interiors. Sleeping four guests across two bedrooms, this former stable building for the local manor house is a great choice for memorable holidays along the Yorkshire coast.

The heart of the home is the open-plan lounge/kitchen/dining room, which is warm and inviting thanks to its exposed wooden beams and a wood burner-effect electric fire. Sink into one of the sofas and settle in for a film night on the TV or head into the kitchen space to whip up something delicious – serving up at the wooden dining table. Moving up the stairs, a family bathroom and two restful bedrooms await, one with a double bed and the other, housing twin beds. When the sun is shining, nothing beats sitting out in the garden. Climb the steps to reach the large, enclosed lawn and make the most of the seating area on the patio. Guests can also enjoy the use of a summerhouse and a paddock.

With the vibrant seaside town of Whitby only 4 miles away, you can look forward to plenty of coastal activities during your stay. Wander along the charming harbour, venture up the 199 steps to the ruins of Whitby Abbey, or tuck into a fish and chip lunch on the beach. Closer to home in Sleights, you can enjoy salmon fishing on the River Esk or set out on a relaxing walk through the surrounding countryside.

Very comfortable and lovely location, would highly recommend the cottage, has everything you need. Close to Whitby and NY Moors railway, good local transport and shops too. If coming over moors there is a steep hill down to the village, but it's a good road.

Stable Cottage is a perfect place from which to explore North Yorkshire. It is comfortable and well equipped, with its own parking space. The owner was very helpful, replacing a light at the earliest opportunity. Whitby is nearby and Sleights has its own shops; everything you need is close at hand. A charming cottage, which we can highly recommRead moreend! Hide

Absolutely stunning. Beautiful throughout and in a stunning location. Owner is such a nice man, doesn't overstay when he comes to say hello and if you needed anything it wouldn't be too much trouble. My comments to my wife and she agreed was you could just pack your clothes and come and live here.

This was a beautiful property in a great location and was only a short drive away from Whitby harbour. The property itself was so pretty and had everything we needed. We have already talked about booking again. Would highly recommend!
