Holiday cottages and accommodation in Buckden
Located in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, the ancient village of Buckden is a walker’s dream. Just a few miles from the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, you are also a 20-mile drive from the deep valleys and peat moorland of the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Once described as the ‘Switzerland of England’, this sprawling wilderness is one for those who love the great outdoors.
Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, this handsome village with its charming village shop and pub, is situated in the Craven district, on the east bank of the River Wharfe in Wharfedale. Take the short walk up to Buckden Pike, the second highest peak in Wharfedale after Great Whernside, to see the memorial cross, then visit the mysterious mine to find out about the tale of ‘Buckden Bill’ as well as the 18th-century ‘election bridge’, funded by an ambitious MP who promised to pay for its construction if he was voted into office.
If you have come to Buckden to walk part of the 85-mile Dales Way, we have a great selection of cottages in Buckden in which to base yourself as you get to grips with this popular walking route, from pet-friendly cottages perfect for dog walkers to luxury cottages where you can relax in five-star bliss after a day of trekking.
