Danby is a lovely moors village and the location of The Moors National Park Centre. Housed in what was originally a hunting lodge, and surrounded by many acres of gardens, entrance to the centre is free. This is the best place to find out about the North York Moors National Park with interactive displays and exhibitions. There's a tearoom, The Woolly Sheep which serves home baking, a gift shop and gallery of local crafts. Children are easily entertained with indoor and outdoor play areas and various activities and events. Several way-marked walks are accessed from here which take in some of the local sights.

The village pub serves a selection of Yorkshire beers and local produce is used widely in the evening meals, and there is a bakery and tearoom which produces high quality breads and bakery fayre, and a post office. Danby holds a village show in August each year. Here you can see exhibitions of farm animals, local crafts and produce, show-jumping and much more. The nearby landmark of the Danby Beacon was one of many beacons that were lined up 20 miles apart to warn locals of imminent invasion from France in the 1600s. The beacon was replaced in 2008 with a splendid metal sculpture, decorated with bronze in recognition of the Bronze Age burial mound on the site, and is used today as a landmark for the thousands of walkers and visitors exploring the moors. The remains of Danby Castle, once a home of Catherine Parr, the sixth wife of Henry VIII, are also close by.
