For a day by the sea, head to the thriving coastal resort of Whitby (8 miles), with its beautiful beaches and attractions including The Cinder Track, Larpool Viaduct and the ruins of an ancient abbey reached via the 199 Steps. Also nearby are the Cleveland Ironstone Mining Museum, Wheeldale Roman Road and Mulgrave Castle, all within 14 miles.
