One of the larger areas in Upper Wharfedale, this sweet little town really has the feel of a village, with its friendly locals, quaint shops and a sense of history that runs throughout its charming limestone streets. Walk around the cobbled passages and charming square, admiring the stone cottages which give a nod to the town’s past as a former lead mining area. An excellent selection of eateries are dotted along the main street, including a traditional pub and a fabulous deli selling delicious gourmet ready-meals, while souvenir shops rub shoulders with excellent gift and clothes shops.

If you love festivals, Grassington is home to its own annual music and arts festival as well as a colourful Dickensian festival and a vintage 1940s weekend. Outside the town, walk the popular Dales Way or hike over to Grassington Moor to see the remains of its lead mining past. If cycling is more your thing, Grassington is also on the Yorkshire Dales Cycle Way and makes a popular stopping point close to the iconic Way of the Roses coast-to-coast cycle route. Head west to see a cluster of beautiful waterfalls in Malham, or south to the popular gateway town of Skipton to explore its historic castle.
