Holiday cottages in Thwaite
The little village of Thwaite in the district of Richmondshire is a great place to enjoy a break in the Yorkshire Dales. The village is thought to be the setting of Frances Hogson Burnett’s Misslethwaite Manor in the Secret Garden and was the home and birthplace of Richard and Cherry Kearton, who were pioneers in wildlife photography at the end of the 19th century. The village of Muker is only 4 minutes away by car and has a great local pub serving local ales as well as a little tea room that serves homemade cakes.
The market town of Hawes is just 15 minutes away with a great selection of shops and restaurants. If you’re in the area why not enjoy a visit to Sion Hill Hall Birds of Prey, 4 miles away in Thirsk or pay a visit to Lightwater Valley with a fantastic selection of rides and attractions to enjoy. Ripon Museum Trust in the centre of Ripon is another great day out, showing you what life was like in a Victorian prison, workhouse and courthouse.
