Self-catering holiday cottages in Hawes

This small market town in Upper Wensleydale is a great place to base yourself while visiting the pretty Yorkshire Dales. Having once occupied an important position on the Lancaster-Richmond Turnpike road, it still has a coachman’s bell high on the wall of one of the inns in the town. Hawes has a great selection of traditional shops as well as a market day every Tuesday where you can pick up some excellent local produce. Or why not get someone to do all the hard work for you at one of the pubs or cafes in the town and then while away an hour or two browsing amongst the little old antique shops tucked away in the side streets.

The Dales Countryside Museum and National Park Centre are popular visitors’ spots; here you can see a lovely old steam engine standing proudly on the former Wensleydale Railway line. Book a ticket for the mill tour at Gayle Mill and then pop into the award-winning Wensleydale Creamery where you can watch the crumbly white cheese made famous by Wallace and Gromit being produced, as well as having a little taste at the end in the dedicated cheese-tasting room. Hawes is situated amongst some of the finest Yorkshire countryside in the land, including the popular Pennine Way. Crossing the high fells from Ribblesdale, it passes through the town on its way to the spectacular Hardraw Force and up to the summit of Great Shunner Fell over into Swaledale.

Base yourself at one of our self-catering holiday cottages in Hawes – our country cottages make an excellent base for your Yorkshire adventures. Have a peek through our dog-friendly Hawes cottages or take a look at our family properties and find the perfect one for you.
