Nestling in a pretty, wooded glade, at the end of a half mile private road, Wagtail Cottage is one of a small group of properties surrounded by open farmland. Tucked away in peaceful countryside on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, close to Gisburn Forest with its mountain bike tracks and walking routes, Wagtail Cottage is situated at the end of a half mile private road. This comfortable cottage is one of a small group of properties surrounded by open farmland situated within the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Due to their effort to be environmentally friendly, the owners achieved a Gold Star Standard Award from the Green Tourism Business Scheme. Heating and hot water are supplied by a central boiler fuelled by wood chip, and all lighting is by low energy bulbs. All cleaning products are made on site from natural materials.
Garden produce can be purchased when available. The cottages and farmhouse have all been comfortably furnished to a high standard and provide excellent holiday accommodation, which is personally managed by the owners and their family. Well maintained the cottages all have their own patios, which then merge into landscaped gardens, making this an idyllic and peaceful setting for a rural holiday.
On site there is a 10 x 5m heated indoor swimming pool, a games room with table tennis, pool table, table football and childrens' games as well as a full size snooker table. A tennis court and 7 a side football field provide entertainment for the more energetically minded but for those with peace and quiet in mind an afternoon by the stream can be most relaxing. Holidaymakers have access to the farmland, through which there some very pleasant walks. For the more adventurous the Three Peaks are on the doorstep where the open fells and moors provide a superb backdrop for more stunning scenery. Close by is Gisburn Forest, where there are many way-marked cycle trails and walks. For mountain bikers there are some excellent trails in the Gisburn Forest which are suitable for all levels. There is secure bike storage and bike wash available on site. There is also fishing on Stocks Reservoir and fly fishing on the River Ribble.

We have just returned from a fantastic family weekend break at Lower Gill holiday cottages. A family group of 15 (ages ranging from 10 to 75) and 4 dogs. We stayed in Lower Gill Farmhouse and Jenny Wren cottage which were both scrupulously clean and well equipped. There was something for everyone - a swimming pool, games room, tennis court, and football pitch, along with fabulous countryside, a stream and walks straight from the door. We were also very lucky with the weather and were able to take advantage of the large BBQ. We highly recommend Lower Gill and are already planning a return visit. The only minor negative comment is that it would have been nice to have more information on things to do/walks and maps of the area, although I do appreciate that these may have been removed because of Covid precautions.
This was a splendid property for a big family gathering. There’s a gate out to a brook which entertained the children for hours!! The property had everything you needed and appropriately kitted out kitchen. What probably started out due to Covid but should absolutely be implemented permanently is the cottages timetable for swimming. We had two 1.5hr slots a day and the small pool to ourselves. The kids planned our day around the pool timetable and went twice daily!! A lovely place, would highly recommend.
Just home from a fabulous weekend break with the whole family in Lower Gill Farmhouse. The house is perfect and location and surrounding area is beautiful. The children had a great time as we were lucky enough to have snow! The beds were really comfortable with plenty of room for all 12 of us. The kitchen is fully equipped with a large table which comfortably seated all of us. I would definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a large accommodation for all the family.
Stayed last weekend of January. Thoroughly recommend this property particularly if holidaying with children as the excellent facilities mean the occasional(!), inclement Yorkshire weather doesn't matter.
Both holiday cottages were well equipped and very clean and lovely and warm.there is plenty of room for big families and the pool and games room make it a very family friendly holiday.
Lots to do, grandchildren loved the swimming pool, lovely long table to gather everyone around for meals, we had a brilliant time even in November, underfloor heating made the property cosy. It was lovely that we were able to bring the dogs who had some great walks. The bookings manager could not have been more helpful.
Was reasonably easy to find. The size of the house was perfect for our group. 6 adults, 6 children (ages 2-15), 1 dog.The large lounge and fireplace keep the place really warm. The games room was great entertainment for the kids. The kitchen is fab and has everything you need. The rooms and beds were comfy and the swimming pool was massive!
The quaint village of Tosside is located between the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the Forest of Bowland on the border of North Yorkshire and Lancashire. The village itself boast a pub, The Dog and Partridge and there are plenty of pubs, shops and restaurants just a 10 mile drive away. This area of outstanding natural beauty is a dream for outdoor lovers. To the north of the village there is a nationally recognised nature reserve, and Gisburn Forest offers cycling and walking trails for all abilities. There are plenty of visitor attractions nearby including the spectacular Ingleton Waterfalls, Malham Cove and Gorsdale Scar. Plus the vast and beautiful landscapes of the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District are only a short drive away.
