Description

Tucked away in peaceful countryside on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, close to Gisburn Forest with its mountain bike tracks and walking routes, at the end of a half mile private road Cuckoo's Nest is in fact two cottages linked by interconnecting doors. These cottages, Jenny Wren and Wagtail Cottage, combine to accommodate a group of 10 people who can sit and eat together in Wagtail Cottage. They form part of a small group of properties surrounded by open farmland, and situated in the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Garden produce can be purchased when available. The cottages have been comfortably furnished to a high standard and provide excellent holiday accommodation, which is personally managed by the owners and their family. Well maintained, the cottages all have their own patios, which then merge into landscaped gardens, making this an idyllic and peaceful setting for a rural holiday.

On site there is a 10 x 5m heated indoor swimming pool, a games room with table tennis, pool table, table football and childrens' games as well as a full size snooker table. A tennis court and 7 a side football field provide entertainment for the more energetically minded but for those with peace and quiet in mind an afternoon by the stream can be most relaxing. Holidaymakers have access to the farmland, through which there some very pleasant walks. For the more adventurous the Three Peaks are on the doorstep where the open fells and moors provide a superb backdrop for more stunning scenery. Close by is Gisburn Forest, where there are many way-marked cycle trails and walks.  For mountain bikers there are some excellent trails in the Gisburn Forest which are suitable for all levels. There is secure bike storage and bike wash available on site. There is also fishing on Stocks Reservoir and fly fishing on the River Ribble.

The owners achieved a Gold Star Standard Award from the Green Tourism Business Scheme. Heating and hot water are supplied by a central boiler fuelled by wood chip, and all lighting is by low energy bulbs. All cleaning products are made on site from natural materials.

The busy, attractive market town of Settle is just seven miles away and the Yorkshire Dales, Trough of Bowland and Lake District are all easily accessible by car.

JENNY WREN & WAGTAIL can be connected by double interconnecting doors creating a large cottage known as CUCKOOS NEST. Sleeping 10.

Reviews

A fantastic property. Location and facilities superb. Extremely clean we had everytime needed. We met the owners a.d.rhey were very friendly and accommodating

Mrs Maxine D,

10 of us, 6 adults and 4 children below 7yrs had such comfortable space, our dogs too! The games room and swimming pool were such fun!

Miss Gloria R,

The cottages were great for a long family weekend, and Lesley was a wonderful host. Plenty of stuff for the kids to do, lovely pool! I would say the only negative about the cottage was the rota for the games room/pool as each cottage are given 2 hours slots. Wasn't an issue crossing over time slots with one cottage but the kids were are asked to leave by a different occupant from another cottage which was a shame.

Mrs Sarah P,

Excellent cottages. Beautiful location. It was an early Christmas for the whole family . Loved that each cottage was decorated and so cosy and warm

Mrs Lesley H,

Our cottage was located in a beautiful area, there were plenty of activities for all ages to enjoy and we made the most of these. Our hosts were on hand to offer assistance when needed and provide local knowledge. As a family group of 10 ranging in age from 7 to 70, we all really enjoyed our stay.

Mr Eric H,

our 5th year of staying at the cuckoos nest, never been disappointed, have already booked for next year

Mrs Christine O,

Fantastic location, fab facilities and a wonderful holiday! Thank you!

Mrs Rebecca J,

We had a lovely time. Lovely location with lots to do. Enjoyed the pool and games room. Cottage was clean but needed some updating especially the bathrooms

Mrs Valerie T,

We had the best holiday staying at the Cuckoo's nest, 5 adults and 5 children, 9yrs to 16. The accommodation was first class, everything you needed and lots of space. We used the pool everyday, the kids loved it especially having it to ourselves. The games room was also a hit with them. The owner was really helpful suggesting places we could go and also printing us a map out. Really lovely.

Mrs B,

Another fantastic holiday ,it was our 6th year staying in the Cuckoos Nest.A Great family get together, plenty of room for the 9 of us.The Grandchildren love it here, the swimming pool, games room, football field were well used, and having the swimming rota works so well with a morning and afternoon session.Lesley and Jeff are so friendly and helpful and keep the cottages and facilities to a very high standard.Well deserved 10 out of 10 and we are all looking forward to returning next year

Mrs O,
