Set on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, this welcoming and traditional stone-built cottage is an excellent choice for a dog-friendly getaway in nature with up to four other guests. With quaint English villages, woodland walking trails and historic attractions nearby, you’ll have plenty to do before snuggling up in front of the wood burner or dining alfresco in the evenings.

Enter the cottage and find yourself in the comfortable open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner with a white-washed wooden beamed ceiling and a crackling wood burner. Wooden and antique-style furnishings fill the lounge space. Around the corner is a relaxing dining area with a chic dining set. Continue into the ‘U’-shaped kitchen area with dark surface tops and light shaker-style cabinets where you can prepare a hearty home-cooked meal for your loved ones. Follow the stairs up to the first floor to find a family bathroom plus two elegant bedrooms with floral motifs and countryside views – a king-size with an en-suite plus a family room offering a single and double bed. Outside, you can gaze across the moorland from the courtyard and lawned garden surrounded by trees with furniture and a BBQ.

The sleepy village of Gillamoor sits on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, close to the market town of Kirkbymoorside (2.5 miles). Here, you can find a pet shop and a handful of pubs and shops. Take a picnic to enjoy by the lakes in Yearsley Woods National Forest (16.5 miles) and explore the historic estate of Duncombe Park (9.5 miles) which is home to a large collection of birds of prey. Near here are the 900-year-old castle Helmsley Castle (9 miles) and the dramatic ruins of Rievaulx Abbey (11.5 miles).

We enjoyed a fabulous week at this lovely cottage. It was very comfortable, cosy, tasteful and very well equipped. There was a supply of salt pepper oil dishwasher tablets and washing up liquid. These seem like basics but, we have stayed in many places where they weren't supplied. Lovely garden with countryside views and comfortable furniture. This is our second year and we love our Yorkshire house. We particularly like the enclosed garden, which is ideal for our three year old. The cottage is well equipped and its clear that the people who look after it care about the guests who stay, even remembering that our little boy loves tractors

The house had everything we needed and was well furnished. It was also spacious. The back garden was ideal for sitting out especially as the weather was hot. It was in a good spot for travelling out. Enjoyed our stay.
