Area Information
Ilkley
The spa town of Ilkley is ideally located for exploring the stunning Yorkshire Dales National Park as well as the nearby cities of Leeds and York, giving you the best of both worlds. The town is popular with visitors for its large number of independent shops and boutiques as well as its award-winning tea rooms and cafes: the town is one of five to feature a famous Betty's Tea Room and as well as being home to the Michelin-starred restaurant The Box Tree. The town's architecture largely dates back to the 17th and 18th centuries though there is evidence of occupation in the area dating back to the Mesolithic period, with Bronze Age rock sculptures and The Twelve Apostles Stone Circle (a druidical stone circle) to be seen in the area. A number of relics from Roman occupation can also be seen, with the remains of a Roman fort located on a site close to the Ilkey town centre. Outside of the town, the famous Ilkey Moor (as described in the Yorkshire anthem 'On Ilkla Moor Baht 'at'') is a great location for walkers and climbers, with some rock formations to be seen such as the Cow and Calf rocks.
