Area Information
Hawes
The charming market town of Hawes has been around as far back as 1307 and is still delighting visitors to this day. Standing between Buttertubs and Fleet Moss, the name Hawes literally means 'a pass between mountains' and the town's beautiful setting in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales means you're never far from a breathtaking view and ideally located to access many of the Dale's most popular visistors attractions. The town's market is held every Tuesday selling a great selection of locally produced food and drink, however if you can't wait until then to sample some of the area's lovely food- pay a visit to the the Wensleydale Creamery, located just on the outskirts of the town to see how the famous cheese is made (and try a bit for yourself!). For lovers of the outdoors, there are many fantastic walks in the area such as the Hawes Mosaic Trail and circular walks to nearby Aysgarth Falls, a stunning waterfall over limestone steps.
