Gather your family and escape to this two-bedroom stone cottage located at the top of a cliff, just a mile’s walk from the charming seaside village of Staithes. Inside the single-storey accommodation, the spacious open-plan interior with underfloor heating is a stylish place to take the weight off your feet and unwind, while the shared patio outside boasts a bubbling hot tub for the ultimate in relaxation.

Head up the ramp to enter the cottage and make yourselves at home in the inviting open-plan lounge/kitchen/dining area. Here, a large corner sofa sits in front of the TV, so you can catch up on your favourite box sets while another member of the family prepares some snacks in the well-equipped kitchen space adjacent. A wooden dining table seating four offers a place to enjoy board games and home-cooked meals together. When sleep calls, there are two double bedrooms to choose from (one of which is accessed via two steps), and both feature an en-suite wet room. When the sun is shining, make the most of the patio outside, with an indulgent seven-seater jacuzzi, shared with the property next door.

Enjoying a scenic spot in the hamlet of Cowbar, a place loved by artists, photographers and birdwatchers, there are plenty of opportunities for enjoying the great outdoors, right from the doorstep. Just 1 mile away is Staithes, once the home of the famous explorer Captain James Cook – the Staithes Heritage Centre provides a fascinating insight into his life and career. Those with children might also recognise the winding streets and charming harbour as the setting of the CBeebies series, Old Jack’s Boat.

Very close to the Cleveland Path and within walking distance of Staithes for those able to negotiate the steep path into the town. Otherwise easy to drop off at the harbour and park in the top car park. Close to Eskdale where the Eskdale Hotel provides very good food. The Magpie Cafe in Whitby has some of the best seafood we have tasted.

Tawny Owl is a lovely, well equipped, spotless and wonderfully located cottage for seeing the north Yorkshire coast. The cottage is modern, beautifully presented and has everything you need to make for a delightful stay. The welcome basket was a lovely touch as well! We hadn't realised quite how close to the coast we were- literally 2 mins walk Read moreand you are standing on the headland. Staithes is a sweet little village with a couple of reasonable eateries; along the coast both ways there are some lovely beaches and with Whitby just 11 miles away- we couldn't ask for a better base to explore from. Wonderful property virtually on the Cleveland Way and a short walk in the village of Staithes, where the Cod & Lobster is a real treat. The hot tub is divine after a day of hard walking.
