The delightful village of Newholm lies to the west of the seaside town of Whitby, between the A171 to Guisborough and the A174, the coast road to Runswick Bay. It has a thriving community with lots of local activities centred around the village hall. These include sewing groups, young farmers, a pony club and the local Parish Council. The local country inn is, “The Beehive”, offering B&B, good food and a welcoming atmosphere. The original inn appears to have been a row of cottages especially for drovers who in the days of the North Riding of Yorkshire sent their herds of cattle to York. Also in the village are the, “Penny Clare Tea Rooms with Crafts and Gifts.” Great homemade scones and a real Aladdin's Cave of gift ideas and local crafts make for a good browse.
