Set in the picture-postcard village of Thornton-le-Dale, this traditional stone cottage welcomes families and groups of friends seeking an idyllic break at the heart of the North York Moors. Sleeping up to five guests in two bedrooms and welcoming two playful pups, this atmospheric property is the ideal place to relax and unwind after days spent wandering over the moors and discovering market towns and pretty villages.

Behind the beautiful stone facade lies a cosy and welcoming property that’s bursting with character. Wooden beams, feature fireplaces, and antique-style furniture are complemented by relaxed, rural decor. Get snug in the lounge, post-adventures, to review your pictures or watch a little TV, open fire burning on chilly days. The country-style kitchen is spacious and well-equipped for cooking up a storm with a large Rangemaster oven. There’s a breakfast table here for casual meals, a formal dining room overlooking the garden, or a picnic table if you prefer to dine alfresco. On beautiful days, make use of the sun deck or spend evenings bubbling under the stars in the hot tub (available at an extra cost). When it’s time to rest your head, you’ll find two bedrooms upstairs, a double plus a triple room with a king-size zip-and-link bed and an additional single, offering flexible accommodation. A family bathroom plus an en-suite bathroom takes care of all practicalities.

Famous as the location for a chocolate-box thatched cottage that’s appeared on countless calendars, Thornton-le-Dale is a popular base for visitors to the moors with shops, restaurants and tearooms. Strike out from the village to walk part of the White Rose Way, a long-distance trail between Leeds and Scarborough that passes through town. Alternatively, head to Dalby Forest (10 miles) to amble picturesque trails and cycle routes. The market town of Pickering is just 2.5 miles with its historic buildings and heritage railway line.

Lovely cottage, beautiful garden and close to amenities. Great choice for days out, Robin Hoods Bay and Whitby were two we enjoyed.

The property location was very good and on the whole was good but there are a few things which could be improved such as:- 1. the quality of the double bed is not good as it is made up of two different beds and they are not at the same level nor does one of the beds have a head board. 2. There are no directions on the website to tell you how to fiRead morend the dedicated parking spot at the rear of the property. 3. There is a DVD player but you are not made aware that there are no DVD's until you arrive at the property. 4. The property information pack in the cottage is out of date as the location given for the guy who looks after the hot tub is out of date. Hide

Very satisfied simply because all of the above was true. Easy to book, superb property, wonderful location, dog friendly and enough equipment to cook a good meal with and very clean, tidy and comfortable.

Virginia cottage was just beautiful. A real home from home. If you like period properties with beams etc then this is the one for you. We had everything we needed to make the week enjoyable with the added bonus of the hot tub in the garden and a secure garden for the dogs. The log fire was set ready to light when we arrived and heating already on sRead moreo the cottage was lovely and warm on arrival which was a bonus as the weather was awful . Secure parking to the rear of the garden or on the road in front if required. It was in a great location 100yds from the main shops and some lovely walks and on the main road should you wish to travel further a field. All in all a lovely week and a great host. Thank you. Hide
