Built to an extremely high standard and situated amidst beautiful countryside on the edge of the North York Moors, Silver Birch Lodge is one of two luxurious eco-friendly Finnish log cabins stand in a quiet secluded position overlooking a large paddock on the owners' small farm and bed and breakfast. With quality fixtures and fittings, the lodge has a traditional log burning stove and solar heating system with underfloor heating offering a wonderful cosy and romantic holiday base especially so on chilly nights and during winter months. There is a covered decked area with patio furniture which overlooks a paddock grazed by horses. The accommodation is all on the ground floor with ramp access from outside, making the lodge suitable for those with walking difficulties, and they have a Visit England level 1 mobility award.
Ideal for lovers of the outdoors, bird watching, walking and cycling with forest trails are right on the doorstep and the nearby market town of Pickering with its famous moors railway running through stunning scenery is within just a few minutes' drive. The owner has horses and is able to provide grazing and stabling for visitors who want to bring their own horse(s).
Silver Birch Lodge can be booked with Rowan Lodge (Y291) to provide adjacent accommodation for two couples, and both lodges have comfortable living room seating, table and chairs and patio furniture to accommodate four people.
All on ground level with a ramp for wheelchair access into the lodge.

The coastal towns of Whitby and Scarborough and the charming fishing villages of the east coast can be reached within a half hour's drive whilst York and its famous Minster are virtually on the doorstep. For horse lovers and their owners, the farm does have facilities for holidaymakers to take along their own horse during their holiday stay and there's nothing better than being able to ride and enjoy the wonderful bridle paths that abound in the area. Within walking distance of the village pub and shop, these wonderful lodges offer a tranquil, and extremely comfortable retreat in a perfect area where there is much to see and do to suit every taste whether it be walking or touring this popular area.
The Hawthornes Bed and Breakfast and holiday lodges
The Hawthornes is situated in the small village of Middleton, approximately 1 mile from Pickering and has 3 en-suite guest bedrooms, 2 of which are on the ground floor. We also have two Eco log lodges. Whilst we aim to cater for the needs of all our visitors, the following statement is a summary of our provision. If you have any specific questions please feel free to call us and we will endeavour to help.
? There is a bus stop approximately 200 metres from our property, and there is a frequent service to and from Pickering, Scarborough, York and beyond. The times are shown at the bus stop or we can find out for you from the internet.
? The main railway station at Malton is 8 miles away.
? There are a few local taxi companies that offer accessible taxis if required. If you would like us to make a booking for you, please let us know.
Arrival and car parking facilities
? In order to ensure that your accommodation is ready for you, we ask bed and breakfast guests to arrive after 4pm. Guests in our lodges can arrive after 3pm. Earlier arrival may be possible, by prior arrangement. Please advise of your anticipated arrival time, so that we can be on hand to welcome and assist you.
For bed and breakfast guests
? there is a large, level gravelled area at the rear of the property, no marked parking bays, but ample room for all cars. There is a concrete footpath from the parking area to the front guest entrance.
? For Lodge guests each Lodge has its own private gravelled parking area, suitable for up to 2 cars, leading onto a flagged access ramp/footpath.
? For bed and breakfast guests arrival, tea and scones will be offered and a tour of our facilities will be given.
? For lodge guests we will be on hand to show you to your lodge, this will be mentioned during our contact with you, and we will give you a personal guided tour of your lodge.
? We are very willing to assist guests with luggage.
Main Entrance and Reception for bed and breakfast guests:
? We have 3 steps to the front door, the top step measuring 15cm high.
? The front door is 81cm wide and has a door knocker to raise attention.
? The entrance hall is carpeted through to the dining room.
? The guest lounge has a wooden floor with a large rug in the centre.
? We have a flat screen tv, with dvd player and video player. Also a cd player for guests use.
? We have a large selection of brochures on all the local attractions, on the guest desk in the hall.
Public areas- General (internal)
? Our hallway to the ground floor bedrooms and dining room are carpeted and well lit, with a wooden dado rail around the walls and good colour contrast.
? The covering on the stairs is a carpet runner, with exposed boards either side. The upstairs landing is fully carpeted.
? The dining room, lounge and 2 bedrooms are on the ground floor.
? There are 14 stairs to the first floor bedroom, with a wooden banister rail to the right hand side, going up.
? We regret that there is no guest toilet for use in the reception area.
Restaurant/ dining room, bar and lounges, take away and caf?
? Breakfast is served in the dining room on the ground floor. There are no steps
? Furniture is flexible and can be moved on request.
? The central oval table is 74 cm high and seats a maximum of 6 people, with two fixed pedestal legs in the centre. Chair seat height is 45cm from the floor to the seat. We have chairs without arms.
? Menus can be provided in large print with prior arrangement.
? We are able to cater for any special dietary requirements, please advise us on making your booking with us.
? We sometimes play radio/ background music, during meals, please let us know if you would like this to be switched off.
? We have an iron and ironing board available for guest use.
? The nearest convenience store and garage is Londis, at the end of the village, approximately ? mile from the property. We have a Post Office and tearoom located within 500m of our property, on the same side of the road.
? Our local Pub is 5 minutes walk away and they serve good food, using local produce wherever possible. Opening times vary, please ask for more information.
? The nearest leisure facilities are in Pickering, 1 mile away, where we have a leisure centre and swimming pool.
? Fishing, golf and riding can all be found within 5 miles from here, do please ask for specific details on any of your interests.
? We also have a vast array of stately homes, gardens of interest all within the local area.
? Guests are very welcome to make use of our garden furniture and summer house.
? There is a 15cm step into the summer house, which has a boarded floor and a rug.

Log lodge facilities
Each lodge has its own parking area, gravelled, with a flagged path and ramp to the lodge.
The path also leads to a boiler/ laundry house, where washing machine, iron and ironing board, pegs, mop and bucket can be found.
A washing line is provided behind the bins. Separate bins for recycling.
Entrance to our log lodges is from a wooden veranda, with garden table and 4 chairs, over a one and half inch threshold onto a flooring of engineered oak.
The main room in the lodge is an open plan living/kitchen/ dining area. Fully fitted high quality kitchen, featuring a dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave, electric hob and oven, kettle, toaster and usual range of crockery, pans etc.
The flooring is laminated, oak, engineered floorboards, with underfloor heating, throughout. A rug in the entrance and in the lounge area. In the bedroom we have one sheepskin rug.
The wetroom is completely tiled out with underfloor heating.
All the walls are timber.
The log burning stove has a tiled area to the front and wall behind.
The wetroom fittings comprise of: walk in shower, wash basin with mirror above, toilet with soft close toilet seat, heated towel rail, tempered glass shelf with various toiletries.
All the windows have internally fitted blinds, easy to use.
All wooden surfaces have glass tops
The bedroom fittings comprise of: king size bed, with percale, white cotton bedding, various throws and cushions. Dressing table, with small drawer, bedside tables with small drawer and extra storage underneath. Wardrobe with hanging space and 4 shelves, 6 hangers and ample space on the top for suitcases.
Lighting over the dressing table and beside the beds.
Main lighting throughout, fluorescent, low wattage downlighters. ( hese are being changed gradually to LEDS)
External lighting is on a sensor
? Sorry, we do not accept pets, but assistance dogs are welcomed.
? Mobile phone reception is mixed, depending on your provider, 3 and Vodaphone being the best.
? We do have free internet and the code in the lodges is mini cooper, but this can be intermittent. If the internet is vital to your stay then maybe we are not the place for your holiday! Please ask for the code for our house guests.
? For guests staying in our home, In the event of a fire the door bell will ring continuously. Please advise us on arrival if you have a hearing impairment and may not hear this, and we will ensure you are evacuated safely.
? We are able to use all four doors in the need to evacuate the house. The guest entrance door being the closest to guest bedrooms.
? We are happy to put guests provisions in our main fridge on request (not available 24 hrs)
