Enjoying an idyllic location by the bridge over the sparkling River Lyvennet, this stylish single-level detached cottage makes a wonderful hideaway for families, friends and couples exploring a beautiful part of Cumbria. Set in the Westmorland Dales, in the north-western corner of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, the property was a schoolhouse in the 18th century, and has been tastefully updated to provide fresh and welcoming accommodation for up to five guests. Situated on the outskirts of the tranquil village of Crosby Ravensworth, this characterful retreat features high ceilings, arched windows, wooden floors and a charming sunroom, providing a lovely spot for unwinding in after a day spent exploring the Lake District or the North Pennines.

The handsome lounge/diner is beautifully furnished, with original flooring, high ceilings and windows, as well as a welcoming wood burner, a Smart TV, plenty of seating and a delightful main dining table. The elegant kitchen has a wealth of equipment alongside a charming additional alcove dining area. The cottage also features a handy bathroom and three beautiful bedrooms: the cosy king-size room overlooks the beck, as does the pretty single which has a charming sun room section. Another spacious king-size room has a refreshing en-suite shower room with underfloor heating. Outside, the picturesque gardens have a choice of outdoor furniture, perfect for dining alfresco on a sunny afternoon. Please note there is no fence along the side of the beck – please keep children supervised.

Situated in the Yorkshire Dales, and within 10 miles of the Lake District and the North Pennines, the cottage makes a fabulous base for walkers, cyclists and nature lovers discovering the woodlands, rivers and moors of these unforgettable, spellbinding areas. Local attractions include Lowther Castle and Gardens, Shap Abbey, Rutter Force and the Gamelands Stone Circle, all within 10 miles.

We can only say "wow", this must be the best cottage we have ever stayed in! The property itself was once a school and has retained many traditional features whilst being furnished and equipped in a modern contemporary way. It was spotlessly clean and comfortable on every level. On entering the living-dining room, the warmth was wonderful and thRead moreat was before we lit the beautiful wood-burning stove - which had an endless supply of logs - unusual these days. To our delight we found a bottle of bubbly in the fridge and other goodies which helped us enjoy New Year's Eve. Kitchen was amply stocked with spotless pots, pans, etc., and had a lovely little breakfast table and fitted wooden benches. Beds were extremely comfortable with clean white linen and also "Soak & Sleep" pillows, an added bonus. Towels in bathroom were also of very good quality. Local pub, the Butcher's Arms was within short walking distance, the food being excellent and the staff very friendly, but remember to take a torch in the evenings! These were also supplied. All in all, we cannot think of a better place to stay and a very huge "thank you" to the owners for allowing us to share their property. Would recommend to anyone. Hide

The house was beautiful and we had a lovely stay. My only negative would be the welcome box which was sparse compared to other holiday cottages.

An amazing, relaxing holiday in such a beautiful house. Incredible location next to the river. Delicious food in the Butchers Arms. Lovely walks seeing heron, deer and lots of lovely lambs in the beautiful countryside. Certainly a holiday to remember.

We had a great week in this lovely cottage, in a fantastic location. Plenty of good walks despite the weather. Good boat ride at Ullswater as recommended. Butchers Arms was very good and the New Inn at Hoff was very welcoming.

We had a wonderful stay at Monks Bridge. Monks Bridge is so spacious with a lovely garden & views of the river. The house is fully equipped with everything you need & more. We found an item of underwear and socks on the floor in the garden room, a toothpick down the side of bedside table in double bedroom. In general we found the cottage to be lacking in attention to detail when it came to cleaning. The curtains in kingsize bedroom were hanging off the ends of the poles. The shower waste was full of hair and slime. ThRead moree curtains in the dining area (kitchen) were splashed with food. The ironing board had fallen apart, the vacuum cleaner had not been emptied, the pipe etc was solid. There was no means to dry wet clothes. We could see there was a clothes airer in a locked room, which had laundry hanging on it. Not all laundry is suitable for a tumble dryer and wet outdoor clothing needed somewhere we could hang. I did contact the owner about item of underwear etc so she was aware of it. Despite the disappointing observations above we enjoyed a wonderful holiday and thought Monks Bridge was a relaxing and beautiful place to stay. We can supply photographs should you wish and feel overall that the problems we experienced were mainly down to cleaning staff. Hide
