Sitting on the southern edge of the North York Moors National Park, this beautifully restored farm building is perfect for a party of four plus a pair of pets. Just 5 miles from Pickering and 13 miles from the coast, it’s an idyllic retreat with a sociable open-plan living space and an enclosed courtyard garden.

Enjoy far-reaching views of fields and hills as you follow the tree-lined driveway to this holiday abode, one of a pair located on a small working farm and sharing a pretty courtyard setting. Once inside, a warm, country-style welcome is evident – the open-plan living space has underfloor heating, an exposed ceiling beam and a choice of sofas where you can stretch out while a favourite movie entertains. The contemporary kitchen has all the must-haves for hassle-free self-catering, including a dishwasher to make light work of the after-dinner clear-up. Linger at the table a little longer and you can plan your next day’s adventures. Once the dogs are settled, head down the hallway and you’ll find an inviting king-size bedroom, another with twin beds, and a modern shower room. For the full fresh-air experience, step out from the lounge into an enclosed courtyard garden which is shared with the neighbouring property and has picnic tables and BBQs. Storage is available for bikes should you need it.

The peaceful village of Allerston – home to a 14th-century church and a welcoming inn with a dog-friendly garden – is a great base for any group of family or friends. Explore the market towns of Pickering (5 miles), Malton (11.5 miles) and Helmsley (18 miles), as well as the must-see coastal towns of Scarborough (13 miles) and Whitby (23 miles). Alternatively, let off steam in Dalby Forest where there are numerous walking, running and cycling trails plus outdoor activities such as archery and a Go Ape treetop challenge course. The North Yorkshire Moors National Park promises more unforgettable moments. For a day out with a difference, join the North Yorkshire Moors Railway at Pickering – well-behaved dogs are welcome – and travel through 24 miles of dramatic scenery. At Grosmont (19 miles), you can connect with the Esk Valley Line and journey onwards to Whitby.

Bilbo Barn was an ideal location and great base. The Cottage was lovely and clean, and we were made to feel welcome from day one. Everything that you think you'll need for your stay was already supplied. We cannot Thank Mary and Arthur enough for the hospitality shown to Sue and I & (Angus our 1 Yr old Westie).

The cottage was beautiful, there wasnt anything that wasnt provided including a lovely welcome pack. This was ideal for us as weve not rented a holiday cottage before and we werent quite sure what to expect. All instructions to cooker, hob, microwave, washing machine, and dishwater were there to help make sure we could operate all of them easily.

We had a perfect week in Bilbo's Barn. It provided us with a great base to explore the area. The owners were very welcoming and we were able to have a relaxing yet active break which was much needed. Our dog was made to feel very welcome ( rather than tolerated) too which is important to us. Thank you

A lovely cottage. Spotlessly clean with everything we needed. The owners are so welcoming and friendly but not at all intrusive. A great base for a trip to the coast or countryside. A very peaceful place to stay.

Staying at Bilbow's Barn was a great week for all and there are wonderful views of the Vale of Pickering. The farm is close to great country villages and towns, like Thornton-le-Dale and Pickering. We could also take day trips for forest hikes and up to the coastal cities like Whitby. The home was big enough to accommodate our family. We could cookRead more and spend time at the farm or go down to the make restaurants, pubs or tea-rooms in the area. By far the best location to truly enjoy Yorkshire. Hide
