This romantic countryside retreat for two is in the quaint village of Normanby, on the outskirts of the North York Moors National Park. The property is within 10 miles of the picturesque market towns of Helmsley and Pickering, and is also less than 30 miles from the coast. In the evenings, dine alfresco and take in the peaceful surroundings and far-reaching rural views in the enclosed courtyard garden.

Enter the stylish abode via a light and welcoming sunroom, where you’ll find ample space to store outdoor attire, along with a comfortable sofa that provides an alternative spot for relaxation. From here, stairs lead to the main living space which is decorated in a bright, contemporary style and features exposed beams and a cosy wood burner. The sleek kitchen area has everything needed to create tasty dishes for two, which you can share together at the wooden dining table. After dinner, sink into the statement sofa to watch a movie on the Smart TV. Tucked behind a partition wall is an elegant king-size bed and an indulgent free-standing bath set under a skylight. A contemporary shower room completes the accommodation. Outside, soak up the peace and tranquillity in the enclosed courtyard garden, complete with outdoor furniture and a firepit.

The picture-postcard market town of Pickering (8 miles) makes a lovely day out. Potter amongst its olde-worlde streets, popping into the independent shops and eateries or perhaps paying a visit to the fascinating Norman castle. The steam trains of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway depart from Pickering, and you can journey in style through the heather-clad moorland to the vibrant seaside town of Whitby. Here, you’ll find wide, sandy beaches, the iconic Whitby Abbey, and a great range of seafood restaurants.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Roost. The property was very well presented, well equipped and furnished, beautifully clean. The location is excellent being on the outskirts of a lovely village and a great base to explore the North Yorkshire region. I would recommend this property and would definitely return.

The accommodation was very clean and comfortable and in a great location for visiting local attractions and the coast. The local pub serves excellent food, it is only a short walk and also does take away meals. Would definitely stay again.

An ideal place for a couple wanting a break in the countryside. The Roost is, anything, better than it looks in the photos: it's cosy but quite spacious, really stylish and very comfortable. The owners left a lovely basket of local food, including eggs from the farm. And the location was perfect - a tiny village ib the countryside with pub and oRead moreld church, but very close to Pickering, minutes from the moors and half an hour from great beaches. We and our dog had a wonderful stay and couldn't recommend it any more highly. Thanks Shirley and Graham! Hide

Absolutely loved every single minute of our 3 night stay at The Roost. The property was stunning and spotlessly clean., it was better than we could of ever imagined. Peaceful and quiet which is exactly what we wanted, the Sun Inn pub, 2 minutes down the lane also does exceptional food. We will definitely be booking to come back here again!!

Booked very last minute after watching the weather forecast - we were not disappointed! The property was spacious, very clean and tastefully decorated. The accomodation was very private - although there is an ajoined property, we didn't hear our neighbours. The fencing between gardens was perfect too - it completely blocked sight of any neighbours Read more(which was handy for our dog). Being set on a farm, you are surrounded by fields, but it is only a quiet 5 minute walk into the village to the pub (Friday night fish and chips aren't to be missed!) The shower was powerful and warm, and the bed very comfy! The welcome basket was one of the most generous ones we've had and our dog loved the treats! We made use of several of the great walking routes provided too. We would definitely stay here again as we wanted for almost nothing! Hide

We had a really lovely stay with our two whippets. Clean, comfortable and well equipped. The owners were welcoming and friendly and left a lovely welcome pack for us and the dogs. A perfect place to explore North Yorkshire. However if you had a large elderly dog they might struggle with the stairs.
