September - October Events
Two main events are held on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway in these months. The age of the steam railway is celebrated in the Autumn Steam Gala and the War Weekend in Pickering which transports you back to the 1940s. For something a little more alternative, come to Whitby for the Goth Festival. At the end of October, many attractions hold half-term events to entertain the family. Staithes Festival of Art and Heritage
9-11 September 2022
Staithes Festival has established itself as one of the friendliest festivals on the coast – a must-go-to event in the regional arts calendar. During the weekend over 150 artists in over 90 cottages and public spaces around the village, become temporary art galleries in a unique selling exhibition. Staithes heritage is also celebrated in fossils, fishing, historic photographs and film shows. There are talks, walks, workshops and live music from soul to sea shanties. After dark the village lights up with installations and an outdoor film show. Refuel in the local pubs and cafes or one of the visiting pop ups like the harbourside seafood shack.

The Castleton Show is a traditional North Yorkshire village show, held on the second Saturday in September. It's official title is 'Castleton & Danby Floral & Horticultural Society Annual Show', with Terrier Show and Lurcher Show. The show attractions, apart from the marquees containing the show entries, include craft stalls, tombola, raffle, Downe and Outs Jazz Band, classic and vintage cars and motorcycles, vintage engines, motorcycle trials display, ferret show, children's foot races, free face painting, tug-of-war, birds of prey, terrier show, lurcher show and ferret show.
The Yorkshire Fossil Festival

The Yorkshire Fossil Festival returns to Scarborough with a weekend of activities and events for all the family, for both enthusiasts and professionals, on site and online. Venue: Rotunda Museum and Stephen Joseph Theatre.
Harrogate Flower Shows
16-18 September 2022
Harrogate Flower Show is a spectacular season finale, welcoming autumn in all its glory with a celebration of the harvest. Featuring amazing floral displays, over 5,000 beautiful autumn blooms and wonderful fruit and veg, The show provides plenty of ideas and inspiration for planning a new year in the garden. This year there is a new venue – Newby Hall & Gardens – just off the A1.

‘Pateley Show’, as the Nidderdale show is affectionately known, is a traditional Dales agricultural show where visitors can browse a wonderful display of the finest livestock, produce and crafts that the Dales have to offer. The annual Nidderdale Show, held in the picturesque surrounds of Bewerley Park in Pateley Bridge, is one of the county’s foremost agricultural shows.
Whitby 60s Spectacular

From Friday night to Sunday night, enjoy a full weekend of sixties music, featuring some of the biggest names of the 1960s. Welcome to 'Whitby Live' home of the 1960s Music Weekends, for the past 15 it has been hosting some of the top 60s Acts from the UK and the USA. Over the past 15 years many of the 1960s biggest names have appeared including The Manfreds, Marty Wilde, Alvin Stardust, The Searchers and Many more.
NYMR Steam Gala
23-26 September 2022
This annual steam gala is back with up to 13 locomotives in steam.
NYMR 1940s Weekend
Over the three-day event families can hop on board steam and heritage diesel trains and relive the amazing spirit and camaraderie of World War II, whilst enjoying various war-themed entertainment and vehicle displays at stations along the iconic North Yorkshire Moors Railway line. Each station will be transformed to create a variety of scenarios and performances including a wartime street, ‘The Sidings’, at Pickering, Home Guard demonstrations at Goathland and RAF themed Grosmont. Levisham station will see a celebration of Victory in Europe which will include 1940s style show bands, music acts, dance troupes and much more.
Whitby Musicport Festival
21-23 October 2022
Musicport has an international reputation for the quality and diversity of the artists it books for what is one of the most intimate friendly and trouble-free events in the most stunning of settings perched above the beach at Whitby Pavilion. All indoors with 6 stages in one venue and over 50 acts many of them coming from overseas make this a journey of discovery and is supported by Arts Council England. Being in the half term the festival is very family-friendly and the festival goes on tour to the local villages on the Monday to Friday following the main event. Acts previously booked include Buena Vista Social Club, Richard Hawley, Mahotella Queens, Lemn Sissay, Idlewild, Seckou Keita and Catrin Finch, Rachid Taha, Toumani Diabate, The Levellers, Misty In Roots, Courtney Pine, Richard Hawley, Hugh Masekela, Linton Kwesi Johnson, Chumbawamba, Mory Kante, Los De Abajo, Arthur Brown & The Blockheads.

Whitby Goth Week

The second of the bi-annual Whitby Goth Weekend events usually takes place at the end of October. Before the Winter sets in, grab your best Gothic attire and spend the weekend partying away again to some great live music at Whitby's Spa Pavilion, or simply head to the town and soak up the interesting and lively atmosphere.
