September - October Events


Two main events are held on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway in these months. The age of the steam railway is celebrated in the Autumn Steam Gala and the War Weekend in Pickering and on the railway transports you back to the 1940s. For something a little more alternative, come to Whitby for the Goth Festival. At the end of October, many attractions hold half-term events to entertain the family. Autumn Steam Gala, North Yorkshire Moors Railway - TBC

Take a ride on one of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway's vintage steam trains as part of their annual Autumn Steam Gala event. With a route departing from Whitby and calling at characterful stations including Grosmont, Goathland, Levisham and Pickering, there will be trade sellers at platforms along the way.

Railway in Wartime Weekend, North Yorkshire Moors Railway - Dates TBC

Step back in time to the 1940's with the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. Hop on one of their steam trains and take a trip along the Esk Valley and enjoy the many themed activities including re-enactments and vintage vehicle exhibitions whilst stopping off at several platforms along the way including Grosmont, Goathland, 'Le Visham' and Pickering. Don't forget to bring your costume!

Bram Stoker International Film Festival, Whitby - Dates TBC

With Whitby having being inspiration to Bram Stoker whilst staying here in 1890 and writing his novel 'Dracula,' this festival is a celebration of the influence which his work has had upon the horror genre of film and literature. The event takes place at Whitby Spa Pavilion and screens a variety of independent films. There are also awards given to the best ones. 


Whitby Musicport Festival - 19th to 21st October 2018

Winner of the FATEA Award for Indoor Festival of the Year 2013, Whitby Musicport is a fantastic annual celebration of world music which takes place at the Whitby Pavilion Complex. Established in 2000, the event has grown rapidly, past acts include the Soweto Gospel Choir, Maalstroom (Netherlands) and Dub Colossus amongst many more.
