July - August Events
Yorkshire’s agricultural shows offer entertainment for all the family and range from the three day event of The Great Yorkshire Show to the much smaller, and slightly odd, Egton Gooseberry Show. There’s also plenty of maritime events on the coast including Whitby Regatta and the Seafest Festival at Scarborough. Many of the small villages have Scarecrow Festivals at this time of year – stroll round and pick your favourite. A selection of summer events is shown below…
Seafest Maritime Festival
22-24 July 2022
Seafest is set up to serve a feast of maritime delights for all the family in Scarborough South Bay. Sample the food stalls and enjoy free seafood cookery demos in the Seafest Food theatre with leading Yorkshire chefs, plus the Great Yorkshire Brewery hosts a real ale and beer festival with over 40 local real ales, beers and ciders.
Whitby Steam Punk Weekend

Whitby Soul Weekender

The original Yorkshire Soul Weekender experience. Annually packed and featuring the best in Northern Soul, Motown and Modern Soul with the North's best loved DJ's. Yorkshire's original since 2002. Offering daytime sessions plus Soul nights spread over three days.
The Yorkshire Dales Festival of Food & Drink
23-24 July 2022
The Yorkshire Dales Festival of Food & Drink (hosted by legendary Yorkshire chef James Martin) showcases the finest food and drink fresh from the Yorkshire Dales. With over 270 traders offering the best regional produce, along with celebrity chef demonstrations from the likes of the Hairy Bikers and James Martin himself, this Skipton festival held at Funkirk Farm, Skipton, is foodie heaven.
Whitby Lifeboat Weekend
30-31 July 2022
Whitby’s lifeboat weekend commences on Friday 20 August with a fairground organ playing at the bandstand. On both days there are stalls including for books, cakes, bric-a-brac, tombola and food plus rides and amusements such the velocipede, coconut shy and dunk-a-lifeboat man. There will be displays in the harbour by the Whitby All-weather and Inshore Lifeboats and Staithes Inshore Lifeboat and on the West Pier of vintage and veteran cars.
Egton Bridge Old Gooseberry Show

Established in 1800, it's the oldest surviving gooseberry show in the country. Held on the first Tuesday in August by the Egton Bridge Old Gooseberry Society, visitors are welcome to see the time honoured tradition of finding the heaviest gooseberry in one of four classes: red, yellow, green and white. The heaviest gooseberry is determined by an apothecary scale, measured in drams and grains.
Leyburn 1940s Weekend

A weekend of 1940s nostalgia, fun and laughter. Dancing and singing in the street and pavement theatre by Leyburn Amateur Dramatic Society. Re-enactors from all over the country choose Leyburn for a friendly atmosphere, great participation by the local community and a well-organised weekend.
Thornton Le Dale Show

Falconry shows, fancy dress on horseback, show jumping, sheep dogs and geese. Thornton le Dale show is everything you would typically expect from a traditional village show. Situated on the North York Moors, this quaint village is definitely worth a visit. With its pretty stream trickling through the centre you can feed the ducks and then take a walk down by the infamous thatched cottage.
Whitby Traction Engine Weekend
5-7 August 2022
This spectacular traction engine rally is held next to the iconic ruins of the abbey and is only a 15-minute walk from the town centre and the harbour. The Spectacular Saturday night firework display will be one of the highlights over the weekend. A full programme of top steam fair attractions including: Tractor Pulling, Steam Engines, Classic Cars, Vintage Tractors, Classic Motorcycles, Fairground Organs, Miniature Steam Engines, Stationary Engines and Vintage Commercials.
Hinderwell Agricultural Show

This year is the 151st annual show. The show has been held since 1868, providing family entertainment and fun with opportunities for people to show their skills and animals in “friendly” competition.

From rowing races to funfair rides and a grand firework display, Whitby Regatta always packs a lot into just three days. On the West Cliff you will find vintage cars and Punch & Judy throughout the weekend then on Monday, Whitby's Pier Road will be closed throughout the day as market stalls and rides take over the iconic West pier. Catch a glimpse of demonstrations by the RAF Sea King Helicopter Search and Rescue team and if you're lucky, you may see The Red Arrows who often frequent the weekend event with one of their breath-taking aerobatic displays!

This year is the 160th show. The show takes place half way between the villages of Castleton and Danby in North Yorkshire, near Danby School. Egton Show is one of the largest village shows in the country, run by a band of voluntary helpers, and is always a huge success with locals and tourists alike. As well as the usual entertainment, children's rides, shopping stalls and refreshments, the show boasts a traditional farmers' market, along with the usual horse, cattle, sheep, goat, ferret, fur and feather classes.
Whitby Folk Week

Whitby Folk Week is a long-standing celebration of the traditional music, dance and song of the British Isles has taken on the trappings of a tradition in its own right. With over 600 events covering workshops, concerts, singarounds, dances, sessions, street entertainment and the extensive 'fringe' events that blossom spontaneously.
Settle Flowerpot Festival
Throughout July and August Settle is decorated with flowerpot creations of every shape, size and design. All the community join in the fun and the aim is to make you smile whilst you enjoy the town centre, the riverside and the hidden parts of Settle that visitors don’t usually find. You can choose to follow one of the Flowerpot Trails that are available to purchase from the Tourist Information Centre.
Wensleydale Agricultural Show

The premier agricultural event in Lower Wensleydale brings the community together in a festival celebrating the area’s agricultural heritage. Something for everyone of all ages, with arena entertainment, showing classes for farm animals and categories for home baking and gardening, stalls and refreshments. There is usually an entertainment spectacular in the main arena to provide entertainment for all the family. A Dales event not to be missed.
Kettlewell Scarecrow Festival
Kettlewell Scarecrow Festival is held in August and Iasts for nine days. The scarecrow trail will take you around the village with scores of imaginative creations to spot and identity. Tea and cakes in the village hall. Souvenir stalls. Ample car parking, Great fun for all the family.
Kilnsey Show in Upper Wharfedale

Kilnsey Show is held on the first Tuesday after August Bank Holiday. Held under the mighty Kilnsey Crag, it is Northern England's premier agricultural show. It’s keynote aim is to promote and showcase life and farming in the Yorkshire Dales, notably the breeding of livestock along with crafts and rural traditions. A great family day out.
