Days out at Yorkshire's diverse heritage sites are a wonderful way to spend time together on your break away in Yorkshire. From magnificent minsters and monasteries to captivating castles and ruins, Yorkshire has it all.

Discover the turbulent history of Scarborough Castle perched on the cliffs overlooking the sea, or the spectacular medieval fortresses of Skipton Castle and Bolton Castle. With breathtaking views of the Yorkshire Dales and River Swale, Richmond Castle is a tourist attraction not to be missed and Middleham Castle provides a fascinating visit.

Explore the gothic ruins of Whitby Abbey on the Yorkshire Coast, the inspiration for Bram Stoker's Dracula or discover Rievaulx Abbey, one of the most impressive ruins in Yorkshire. Days out at Bolton Abbey and Fountains Abbey prove to be enjoyable and informative days out for all the family. York Minster is one of the world's most magnificent cathedrals and features an undercroft museum and access to climb the Central Tower.

There are also numerous enchanting stately homes dotted around Yorkshire. These grand palaces and mansions are filled with works of art, ancient antiques and precious memorabilia from the families who have lived there for centuries. Their glorious grounds and gardens are filled with blooming flowers, fountains, beautiful landscapes, walled gardens, and often playgrounds and gift shops to keeps the children entertained. Castle Howard close to York in North Yorkshire and Ripley Castle and Gardens on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park have remained family homes since they were built centuries ago and boast stunning interiors and extensive grounds to explore. Along with wonderful cafes and farm shops selling delicious produce. Duncombe Park in Helmsley in the North York Moors is also well worth a visit and boasts a nature reserve and home to the National Centre for Birds of Prey.

Also during your break in Yorkshire why not hop on board one of the heritage steam trains at Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway in the Yorkshire Dales or the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and ride through spectacular Yorkshire countryside.
