A charming market town with a stunning castle, Skipton is the perfect location to start your adventure in Yorkshire. With heritage and attractions to get anybody and everybody interested, Skipton has it all. There’s plenty to see and do in the town: Skipton castle is over 900 years old and is one of the most brilliantly preserved medieval castles in England, there’s the ruins of an old priory and the high street is paved with cobbles, so you needn't even head out to the outstanding countryside to find some beauty in Skipton.

Skipton market is open 4 days a week and has been drawing customers in for over 1000 years but you’ll also find a range of high street and independent shops to potter around and find the perfect souvenir. There’s also a farmers market held on the first Sunday of every month where you’ll find a fantastic selection of locally grown produce and delicious treats.

Skipton is famous for its annual Waterways festival celebrating the rich history of the Leeds-Liverpool canal which passes through the town with an array of entertainment and canal boats flocking to the area. Another notable event in the Skipton calendar is the annual Skipton Sheep Day which pays tribute to the town’s heritage and countryside.

With it’s proximity to the Yorkshire Dales, along with a number of excellent attractions, you’ll never be bored on a Skipton self-catering break. Why not pay a visit to Bolton Abbey with it’s beautiful estate stretching over 30,000 acres in the Yorkshire Dales including 80 miles of moorland and woodland just waiting to be explored. Other great days out include the Bronte Parsonage Museum in nearby Haworth, Stump Cross Caverns and Brimham Rocks.
