The area is popular with walkers and cyclists, with the town’s location on the Pennine Way as well as its proximity to the Coast to Coast route. The nearby High Force Circular Walk takes you to the the spectacular High Force Waterfall in Forest-in-Teesdale and the walk from the nearby village of Mickleton to Grassholm reservoir is great for fishing and sailing! The Kingsway Centre, located on the outskirts of Middleton-in-Teesdale, offers rock climbing, gorge walking, kayaking and raft building if you are feeling adventurous.

There’s plenty to see and do in Middleton-in-Teesdale cottages and the Durham Dales, from browsing the collections at the famous Bowes Museum (where you can see the beautiful Silver Swan in action), step back in time at the open air Beamish Museum where you can walk through replicas of 1820s, 1900s and 1940s streets, shops and homes or enjoy a day at historic Raby Castle which includes a 200 acre deer park, a playground the kids will love and stunning walled gardens.
