Holiday cottages and accommodation in Askrigg

Sitting prettily in the valley of the River Ure, this small North Yorkshire village is one of the true delights of Wensleydale. Mentioned as far back as the 11th century in the Domesday Book, the village is perfectly placed at the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park with its fabulous walking routes and picturesque scenery. Just 5 miles east of Hawes and 12 miles west of the gateway town of Leyburn, the village of Askrigg is close to a variety of picturesque market towns, where visitors can spend afternoons browsing the independent shops and trying out some proper Yorkshire fare.

The village shot to fame in the 1970s as home to fictional Dales vet, James Herriot, featuring one of its local pubs - now The King’s Arms - as the famous Drover’s Inn. Walkers will love Askrigg with its gentle footpath walks, although a slightly more challenging climb up Mill Gill is a local’s favourite. On your return, treat yourself to a local ale in one of the two pubs or a mouthwatering cream tea in the village tea room.

When it’s time to retire, head home to one of our Askrigg holiday cottages where you can cosy up and prepare for the next day’s activities. Our selection of self-catering Yorkshire Dales accommodation caters for all guests, from romantic weekenders looking for a secret escape to large family gatherings.
