The quaint village of Askrigg is the perfect spot for indulging in a relaxing Yorkshire Dales break. Some of the best attractions of the Yorkshire Dales are within easy reach such as the beautiful Aysgarth Falls, a shallow but lengthy waterfall where the River Ure runs over limestone steps, made famous in the film Robin, Prince of Thieves. The historic Bolton Castle is also nearby. Further south there are many interesting caves just waiting to be discovered (Mother Shipton’s, Ingleborough and Stump Cross Caverns to name just a few!).
The market towns of Hawes and Leyburn are close by, though you don’t have to leave the village to find the perfect lunch spot. Askrigg has a local village shop with a delicatessen, two lovely tea rooms to choose from as well as a variety of pubs to relax in on an evening. The village’s shops are situated around a cobbled market square, with the market cross dating back to 1820. You may even recognise some of the village’s landmarks, as Askrigg recently served as the setting for the fictional village of Darrowby in the BBC’s All Creatures Great and Small. Despite its small size, Askrigg is very popular and properties in the village tend to book quickly. If you can't find somewhere to meet your requirements, have a look at the related pages.
