Description
This delightful stone-built two bedroomed cottages is situated on the outskirts of the popular village of East Ayton, in a beautiful setting overlooking the River Derwent and across to Ayton Castle. This is a perfect country idyll, yet only minutes from local shops, a pub, and one of the best fish and chip shops in the Scarborough area. On entering, you are setting foot in an altogether more tranquil environment, with many original features, blended with modern conveniences. The kitchen has plenty of space, and the wooden table is great for sharing a meal at the end of a day spent exploring the coast or the moors. The spacious lounge, with its deep-set Yorkshire sash windows and wooden window seat, is a charming and peaceful place to relax; see if you can spot the carved mouse typical of Robert Thompson of Kilburn, renowned local furniture maker. …You can have great fun in this property searching for other little mice hidden away! Upstairs you will find a real country bedroom with its brass bedstead, decorative cast iron fireplace and plenty of storage, plus a discrete TV. There is a further pretty single bedroom with a day bed and TV. The bathroom has a bath with shower over. Outside you have the use of a charming cottage garden with a secluded summerhouse set with views across the river to the castle. All in all this is a wonderful retreat from hectic everyday life. A short drive or bus ride away is the popular seaside resort of Scarborough with its two sandy beaches, lovely parks, castle and many fantastic shops, pubs, tearooms and restaurants, and the picturesque Forge Valley is on your doorstep. There are numerous walks through the Valley [which is a National Nature Reserve], with a Geological Trail, and pathways through the sites of Special Scientific Interest with their rare flora and fauna. Close by are coastal paths, disused railway tracks and the Wolds Way, and for the more energetic the Moors-to-Sea Cycle Trail and Sustrans routes.
