Reviews

Perfect location and lovely decor/style plenty of space

Vicky E,

Great flat, really central and such comfy beds. Go to the beach and walk to Sandsend - excellent cafe serving good drinks and snacks. Lots of interesting pubs and people watching is great. Will definitely come again.

Previous Customer,

Lovely property which has been decorated to perfection. Perfectly clean with everything you need for it to be a home for home. Will definitely be back.

Previous Customer,

I had the pleasure of staying at Sandy Feet Retreat with my husband and my parents from 1st Nov – 4th Nov 2018. We were all very pleasantly surprised when we walked through the door to the apartment! It’s decorated and furnished to a very high standard – it’s simply stunning and a credit to the owners. A welcome pack was presented to us in the kitchen, with tea, coffee, milk, biscuits and cakes! We didn’t expect that! The lounge and the master bedroom are huge!! Both beautifully and tastefully decorated. My husband and I slept in the bunk beds, which at first we were a little apprehensive about. But the beds are soooooo comfy! It wasn’t a problem at all. The location is perfect, a short walk down the road to the train station. We took a trip on the steam train to Goathland; Heartbeat country – and had a brilliant day out. It’s five minutes to the town too, you couldn’t ask for a better location. We’ve previously stayed at the other end of town but won’t again. This has to be our favourite location in Whitby to date and we will definitely be going back!!

Previous Customer,

We stayed at sandy feet retreat for a weekend in November. The flat is absolutely stunning and has been furnished to a very high standard. It is close to all the local amenities and within easy walking distance to shops restaurants and pubs. We would definitely recommend this lovely place and will be booking again this year.

Area Information

Whitby
Whitby is a popular choice for visitors all year round. It is well known for its long sandy beach and delicious seafood. The river Esk flows through the town to the sea and cottages are perched on the hills on each side, with cobbled streets and historic yards providing a maze of places to explore. The town has a fantastic mix of modern shops and services, traditional stores and boutique shops. Whitby jet continues to be made into beautiful jewellery and sold in a number of shops.  There are plenty of excellent restaurants which serve local fish and seafood, as well as a wonderful choice of cafes and tearooms.

The ruins of Whitby Abbey stand dominantly on the clifftop and can be reached by climbing the 199 steps from the old town. The Abbey is said to have been the inspiration for Bram Stoker's novel Count Dracula, and its gothic splendour is the perfect place from which to take in some truly stunning views over the town, harbour and coastline. Whitby harbour is steeped in history and visitors can see where British explorer Captain James Cook first worked as an apprentice before setting sail and discovering Australia. A statue of this great explorer stands proudly above the town, along with some huge whalebones, a sign of the town's maritime history. The harbour is a buzz of activity and you can enjoy early mornings watching the fishing boats come ashore before getting first choice of their catch of the day.

There's always something happening throughout the town, with festivals and fairs are held throughout the year. These include Whitby Folk Week and the Whitby Regatta, and there are two popular Goth festivals each year. For more information on Whitby and the surrounding area and local events see our Yorkshire Coast Guide and the Festivals & Events Guide.
