This 18th century former fisherman's cottage is tucked away in a sheltered, quiet yard off Cliff Street. The older part of the building has been refurbished and added to in more recent times. The cottage benefits from a south facing aspect and has a patio which is ideal for guests wishing to enjoy the summer evenings while the children are in bed. The property is ideally situated for local shops and attractions. A very popular area of Whitby.
The cottage is accessed via an alleyway and flight of stone steps opening up into a sheltered hideaway. Those with walking difficulties may require assistance.

A wonderful home from home cottage. The outside patio and summer house is a bonus. Always clean and tidy in this cottage with enough things provided to make this an excellent self catering holiday..Though plenty places to eat out near by. A good location..away from the hussle and bussle but everything still on the door step. Always efficient service from Ingrid Flute Holiday Cottages. The owners of this wonderful cottage are also very helpful if needed. Another wonderful week in Whitby and the Olive Tree Cottage. Everything in the cottage up to its usual standard and equipped with all you need from a holiday. Whitby is a popular choice for visitors all year round. It is well known for its long sandy beach and delicious seafood. The river Esk flows through the town to the sea and cottages are perched on the hills on each side, with cobbled streets and historic yards providing a maze of places to explore. The town has a fantastic mix of modern shops and services, traditional stores and boutique shops. Whitby jet continues to be made into beautiful jewellery and sold in a number of shops. There are plenty of excellent restaurants which serve local fish and seafood, as well as a wonderful choice of cafes and tearooms.
The ruins of Whitby Abbey stand dominantly on the clifftop and can be reached by climbing the 199 steps from the old town. The Abbey is said to have been the inspiration for Bram Stoker's novel Count Dracula, and its gothic splendour is the perfect place from which to take in some truly stunning views over the town, harbour and coastline. Whitby harbour is steeped in history and visitors can see where British explorer Captain James Cook first worked as an apprentice before setting sail and discovering Australia. A statue of this great explorer stands proudly above the town, along with some huge whalebones, a sign of the town's maritime history. The harbour is a buzz of activity and you can enjoy early mornings watching the fishing boats come ashore before getting first choice of their catch of the day.
There's always something happening throughout the town, with festivals and fairs are held throughout the year. These include Whitby Folk Week and the Whitby Regatta, and there are two popular Goth festivals each year. For more information on Whitby and the surrounding area and local events see our Yorkshire Coast Guide and the Festivals & Events Guide.
