This pretty and comfortable modern apartment is situated on the East side of Whitby in the popular development called Whitehall Landing. It offers easy access to the town centre, the famous 199 steps, the Abbey and the Swing Bridge. It has some fantastic Estuary views from the lounge and the double bedroom, it has been furnished and decorated to a high standard and has off-street parking for one car.

Area Information

Whitby
Whitby is a popular choice for visitors all year round. It is well known for its long sandy beach and delicious seafood. The river Esk flows through the town to the sea and cottages are perched on the hills on each side, with cobbled streets and historic yards providing a maze of places to explore. The town has a fantastic mix of modern shops and services, traditional stores and boutique shops. Whitby jet continues to be made into beautiful jewellery and sold in a number of shops.  There are plenty of excellent restaurants which serve local fish and seafood, as well as a wonderful choice of cafes and tearooms.

The ruins of Whitby Abbey stand dominantly on the clifftop and can be reached by climbing the 199 steps from the old town. The Abbey is said to have been the inspiration for Bram Stoker's novel Count Dracula, and its gothic splendour is the perfect place from which to take in some truly stunning views over the town, harbour and coastline. Whitby harbour is steeped in history and visitors can see where British explorer Captain James Cook first worked as an apprentice before setting sail and discovering Australia. A statue of this great explorer stands proudly above the town, along with some huge whalebones, a sign of the town's maritime history. The harbour is a buzz of activity and you can enjoy early mornings watching the fishing boats come ashore before getting first choice of their catch of the day.

There's always something happening throughout the town, with festivals and fairs are held throughout the year. These include Whitby Folk Week and the Whitby Regatta, and there are two popular Goth festivals each year. Access Statement for No 9 

Introduction  

Apartment 9 is a two bed roomed second floor apartment  on a modern development located on the edge of the River Esk and approximately 1,500 meters from the centre of Whitby.  

We have tried to provide as much information as possible in this statement and do hope you enjoy your stay, however if there are any queries please contact on 07789934816 and we look forward to welcoming you. 

Pre-Arrival

Booking / enquiries can be made directly from the website, via email, telephone or letter.  

The access statement is available on the website and in the 'Welcome File' in the flat.  

Arrival and Car Parking Facilities  

You will be met on arrival details are given with confirmation of booking. 

When arriving from the North on the A171 turn right at the first set of traffic lights following the A171 sign posted Scarborough. Proceed over the high river bridge and take the first left turn onto Spital Bridge. Whitehall Landing can be found on the left after approximately 50 yards. Follow the road around until you reach a T-junction. Turn left and Turnbull Court is on the right hand side.  

If travelling from the south turn right onto Spital Bridge just after the pedestrian crossing and before the high bridge then as above.  

Main Entrance Hall  

You can access Apartment 9 via the main door to the right of the designated parking space, no.9. The height of the lock is 1.2 meters and the front door is 85cm wide, hinged on the left. The threshold from the exterior into the entrance hall is 12cm. There is a light switch to the left which turns on all the lights in the stairwell.  

Staircase  

There are two flights of stairs with landings in between leading to the second floor landing. There are handrails on each side. The steps are 1m wide, 17cm high and 27cm deep.  

Lift  

There is a lift available in the entrance hall. The lift door dimensions are 200cm high x 80cm wide and the interior dimensions are 110cm x 104cm. The apartment is on the 2nd floor.  

Apartment 9 

From the lift turn right, and straight ahead. The apartment is accessed via a door with a single lock 1m high and the door is 92cm wide. The door is a fire door with a heavy self closing mechanism.  

Apartment Entrance Hall  

The hall gives access to all rooms. The flooring is a light laminate. A store cupboard with ironing board, hoover & immersion heater switch is just to the left of the front door. There is a large night storage heater on the right of the hall. The telephone for the entry system is on the wall to the right of the living room door.  

Open Plan Lounge, Dining & Kitchen Area  

The door is 81cm wide and self-closing. The open plan lounge, dining and kitchen area is continued in light laminate flooring. 

There are two purple 2 seater bed settees, a round glass dining table, four leather/wood dining chairs without arms, a glass coffee table, large grey rug, and a wooden hi fi storage unit and TV cabinet. 

There is a TV/Free view / DVD player with remote control. There is also a stereo with iPod dock.  

The kitchen worktop heights are 90cm high. Drop down oven with the shelf being 44cm from the floor for the oven and 63cm for the grill. There is a circular electric hob with touch controls 90cm above floor level with electric extractor fan above.  

There are four spotlights and two strip lights underneath the kitchen cupboards. There is a fridge with ice box compartment and underneath is a white dishwasher.  At the base of the left hand unit next to the cooker is an electric heater. There is a washer on the left hand side of the sink unit. The sink has a waste disposal facility. 

There is a fire blanket on the wall. A microwave is also available. The kitchen is equipped with standard crockery in the cupboards, glasses, cups, etc. and storage for food. 

Master Bedroom  

Carpet is 80% wool in beige (short pile). The door is self-closing and 81cm wide. There is a double bed with the top of the mattress 62cm above the floor. The space available at the left side of the bed is 140 cm and on the right 140 cm. There is a large fitted wardrobe with a shelving compartment incorporating a full length mirror, two bedside cabinets, bedside lamps and a glass topped dressing table and mirror.  There is a wall mounted electric storage heater to the right of the window.  

All bedding is White Company with a choice of feather / anti allergenic featherless pillows and anti allergenic quilt.  

Toilet/Shower 

With large shower cubicle, white sink with glass fronted cabinet above and white toilet. The light switch is on a pulley to the right inside which also operates the extractor fan .The flooring is anti slip tiling. 

There is a wall mounted heated towel rail. The door is 81cm wide. The toilet seat is 41cm high. Distance to the left of the toilet is 23cm and distance to the right is 16cm. The sink height is 82cm. The shower has a step in of 16cm and is 74cm wide.  

Switch for heated towel rail is outside ensuite to right of door at 39cm from floor. Shower switch with red light is above at 114cm.  

Bedroom 2  

Carpeted with a short pile (80% wool) carpet in beige. The door is self-closing & 81cm wide. There are two single beds with the mattresses being 48cm above floor level. 

There is a large fitted wardrobe, two bedside cabinets, dressing table, stool and two bedside lamps. There is a night storage heater on the right hand side of the wall.  

All bedding is White Company with a choice of feather / anti allergenic featherless pillows and anti allergenic quilt.  

Convenience Stores  

There is a convenience store half a mile away on the main Scarborough Road called Helredale Stores. Turn right out of Whitehall Landing and turn left upon reaching the A171. It is on the left. This sells basic groceries and newspapers and you can hire videos. There are several supermarkets in Whitby, the nearest being the Co-op. Turn left at the junction to Spital Bridge from Whitehall Landing and follow the road down into Whitby over the old swing bridge, bear left and then at the roundabout turn left again and you will see the supermarket on your right. The Tourist Information Centre is opposite on your left. The Train Station is to the right of the Co-op and if you continue over the roundabout the Bus Station is just past the pedestrian crossing on your left.  

Outdoor Facilities  

There is a bin store at the bottom left hand corner of the building. There is a promenade adjacent to the river. It takes approximately 10 minutes to walk into town.

Electric heating throughout  

The nearest bus stop is on Church Street, approximately 100 meters  

away. The nearest taxi rank is just over the old swing bridge following  

the road round to the left.  

There is a Welcome Pack to be found on the glass coffee table plus separate folders giving operating instructions for all appliances and details of attractions and places of interest in the Whitby area.
