Stay at this beautifully restored 17th-century, Grade II-listed cottage located in the heart of Whitby. Enjoy the period and grace with a unique modern twist. The owners have gone above and beyond to transform the cottage to its former glory. This property has original features including a saltbox carved into the alcove recess, a restored period display cabinet, beamed ceilings and a hand-crafted monk’s bench. This cottage is perfect for that extra special stay in the historic seaside town of Whitby.

The entrance is via the lower ground floor, where you descend eight steep steps to the front door. As you enter, you see the vestibule with coat hanging and shoe storage. This leads to the lounge with its stone floor, original beam features and original saltbox. Settle down on the sofa and chairs or on the monk’s bench and watch the TV or a DVD whilst someone stokes the wood burner. The kitchen has lovely, large tiles and exposed brickwork making it a delight to cook in. Serve dinner up at the dining table with further monk’s benches. Steep, semi-spiral staircase lead to the first floor where there are two en-suite double bedrooms. Both have TVs and large corner shower cubicles. Outside, there is an outhouse with a washing machine and freezer, as well as a bench to the front of the property for sitting on and watching the world go by.

Whitby is a popular choice for visitors all year round. It is well known for its long sandy beach and delicious seafood. The River Esk flows through the town to the sea and cottages are perched on the hills on each side, with cobbled streets and historic yards providing a maze of places to explore. The town has a fantastic mix of modern shops and services, traditional stores and boutique shops. Whitby jet continues to be made into beautiful jewellery and sold in a number of shops. There are plenty of excellent restaurants which serve local fish and seafood, as well as a wonderful choice of cafes and tearooms.

This is the second time we have stayed in the property, both occasions were very enjoyable. The property is beautiful and situated in a fab location. We had a slight issue with the shower, on contacting the owner it was rectified immediately and we were given a complimentary bottle of wine. We will definately book Bagdale Cottage again.

THE COTTAGE IS FABULOUS. THE LOCATION IS UNFORTUNATE, SET BELOW A BUSY ROAD AND ONLY SIX FEET AWAY. ALSO IMMEDIATELY BEHIND A BUSY /NOISY PUB. MAIN PROBLEM IS THAT PARKING IS A NIGHTMARE !!

This was our second visit to Bagdale cottage. Weve also spent time at other properties over the years booked via Ingrid Flute. Have always been very pleased with places weve stayed at. One thing Id suggest is with properties like Bagdale that have a wood burner, an option to pay for an added extra to have wood included. We got caught out as theRead more COOP sold out and then started stocking BBQ Charcoal. Just suggesting during winter months. Hide

Pleased overall, standard of cleanliness didnt seem as high as previous visit, cobwebs, dust on lampshade base, bathroom door. Despite "covid cleaning". The outside shed has rubbish from previous occupant which smells. Reported this in an email on Thrs as we left early and no mention or acknowledgement.
