A Perfect Couple's Getaway
With cobbled streets, cosy cottages, wonderful walks and some of the best places to eat on the coast, Whitby is the perfect place for a romantic retreat.
Start the day with breakfast at Java on Flowergate. With choices from smoked salmon bagels to gourmet English breakfasts –this is not your stereotypical fry up but it will stand you in good stead for a brisk stroll along the beach to Sandsend.
When you get there, have a cuppa in the wooden café before taking the rest of the morning to explore the picture postcard Sandsend Valley with its traditional cottages.
A stones throw away are some gift shops and an art gallery to browse through, and if that has worked you up an appetite then have a hearty lunch at the Hart Inn – a proper local but welcoming pub serving food and drink from local producers.
After that, make your way back to Whitby via the beach or the coastal road and as darkness begins to set in and the twinkling lights of the fisherman’s cottages switch on, this is the ideal time to explore the cobbled streets on the old side of town.
There are a number of independent jewellers selling genuine Whitby jet as well as gifts and other souvenirs. Head towards the 199 steps and watch the shadow dancing at St Mary’s Church and explore Whitby Abbey at its best under the moonlight before heading back into town.
Be wined and dined at some of the town’s trendiest bars. If you are lucky enough to get a window seat in the Moon and Sixpence you can look out over the harbour with a glass of fine wine, while at Harry’s Bar just around the corner you can enjoy a taste of tapas on the coast.
With a menu that covers small sharing dishes to steak on the stone you will not be disappointed and then what better way to round off the evening with a cocktail in Bar7?
Let Ingrid Flute's Holiday Cottages take all the stress out of your escape from reality by finding you the perfect place for two to stay.
