It is a beauty spot that has been on the tourist trail for over three hundred years and presently you will find a tourist information centre here, along with the Coppice Cafe serving locally-sourced produce. The river Ure hurls itself over three massive rocky steps, the Upper, Middle and Lower Falls. Alongside them is Freeholders’ Wood which is an ancient coppiced woodland. This local nature reserve has easy trails laid out for visitors.</p> <p>The beauty of the Falls has seen people flocking to the village for centuries, with JMW Turner drawing inspiration from them within his sketches, Dorothy and William Wordsworth are said to have visited and the waterfall also featured in the 1991 blockbuster Robin Hood Prince of Thieves.</p> <p> </p> <p><img alt="Whitby Pier" data-entity-type="file" data-entity-uuid="333ddde3-ca8f-4a29-b384-2d5e9aefa38c" src="/sites/yorkshireholidaycottages.co.uk/files/inline-images/Whitby%20pier.png" /></p> <h3>Whitby Pier</h3> <p>Whitby's iconic Grade II listed East Pier is the perfect place to take a refreshing stroll and enjoy some delicious takeaway fish &amp; chips whilst gazing out to sea. Plus the newly built footbridge linking the East pier to the extension will let you see this beautiful fishing town from another perspective. Look back at the stunning view of spectacular Whitby Abbey and St Mary's Church perched on the cliff edge overlooking the town.</p> <p> </p> <p><img alt="The Hole of Horcum" data-entity-type="file" data-entity-uuid="1c97a810-c67f-4a6c-861c-c17117fc3bf1" src="/sites/yorkshireholidaycottages.co.uk/files/inline-images/hole%20of%20horcum.png" /></p> <h3>The Hole of Horcum</h3> <p>The Hole of Horcum is one of the most stunning features in the North York Moors National Park and is the ideal location to immerse yourself in the great outdoors amongst absolutely breathtaking scenery. This 400ft natural hollow spans 3/4 mile across and is surrounded by miles of beautiful moorland and footpaths for walks with the family or your four legged friend. The nearby villages of Lockton and Levisham offer lovely tearooms and traditional pubs with great beer gardens, or why not pack a picnic and make the most of the outdoors whilst soaking up the breathtaking views.</p> <p> </p> <p><img alt="Malham Cove" data-entity-type="file" data-entity-uuid="0057211a-a85b-46a6-bacb-9dbcab2391ea" src="/sites/yorkshireholidaycottages.co.uk/files/inline-images/Malham%20Cove.png" /></p> <h3>Malham Cove</h3> <p>This spectacular curved limestone amphitheatre is a well known beauty spot in the Yorkshire Dales National Park and can be reached by a mile of track to the 250' rock face. To experience more of the scenery here, make sure you climb the steps to the west of the cove. If you follow the footpath above Sheriff Hill back down to the cove you can take an interesting and alternative route back to the village of Malham and see the remains of ancient iron age settlements. This is a lovely family friendly walk and boasts brilliant views over Malham and beyond.</p> <p>It is easy to see why this beautiful natural formation has been the inspiration for many works of art and has featured in numerous TV programmes and films including Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows!</p> <p> </p> <p><img alt="Ravenscar" data-entity-type="file" data-entity-uuid="20be2e16-e0d8-43d8-8653-02f9285e64f0" src="/sites/yorkshireholidaycottages.co.uk/files/inline-images/Ravenscar%202.png" /></p> <h3>Ravenscar</h3> <p>Set in a dramatic clifftop location, between the coastal towns of Scarborough and Whitby, you will find the little village of Ravenscar. Planned by the Victorian's to be developed as the next big tourist resort, it was given the tag 'The Town That Never Was' due to it never being completed. However what remains is a beautiful headland with numerous walks and cycle routes to enjoy. The views over the bay towards the seaside village of Robin Hood's Bay are absolutely spectacular from here and this amazing vantage point was once used by the Romans as a signal station. </p> <p>From here you can also descend the steep path down to the beach on the Jurassic Coast, which is a great spot for fossil hunting. You might even spot the colony of seals here, particularly in June and July when the seals come ashore to pup or the grey seals in November.</p> <p>Also discover the fascinating old Peak Alum Works, which are now a National Trust site and were once a vital part of the UK's fabric dyeing industry. The quarries, shale tips and factory building remains can be found a short walk from the village by following the signs for the Cleveland Way. The remains of the World War II radar stations can also be found along the Cinder Track, the 21 mile former Scarborough to Whitby railway line, which is a great track to walk or cycle along.</p> </div> <div class="field-wrapper field field-node--field-tags field-name-field-tags field-type-entity-reference field-label-hidden"> <ul class="field-items tocc__itemlist tocc__itemlist--inline" data-prefix="Tags"> <li class="field-item"><a href="/taxonomy/term/24" hreflang="en">Countryside and Villages</a></li> <li class="field-item"><a href="/taxonomy/term/20" hreflang="en">Walking</a></li> </ul> </div> <a href="/taxonomy/term/5" hreflang="en">Places To Visit</a> Tue, 17 Mar 2020 12:09:47 +0000 Ms Louise Burtt 837 at http://www.yorkshireholidaycottages.co.uk The Best Days Out in Yorkshire http://www.yorkshireholidaycottages.co.uk/blog/2020/03/the-best-days-out-in-yorkshire <span class="field-wrapper">The Best Days Out in Yorkshire</span> <span class="field-wrapper"><span lang="" about="/user/1332" typeof="schema:Person" property="schema:name" datatype="">Ms Louise Burtt</span></span> <span class="field-wrapper">Tue, 03/10/2020 - 13:01</span> <div class="field-wrapper field field-node--field-banner-images field-name-field-banner-images field-type-image field-label-hidden"> <section class="block block-system block-system-breadcrumb-block"> <nav role="navigation" aria-labelledby="system-breadcrumb"> <span id="system-breadcrumb" class="visually-hidden">You are here</span> <ul class="oc-breadcrumb"> <li> <a href="/">Home</a> </li> <li> <a href="/taxonomy/term/5">Places To Visit</a> </li> <li class="current"><a href="#"></a></li> </ul> </nav> </section> <div class="field-items tocc__herobanner"> <div class="tocc__tile tocc__tile--large field-item"> <div class="tocc__tile__image" style="background-image: url(/sites/yorkshireholidaycottages.co.uk/files/styles/page_banner/public/2020-03/The%20Best%20Days%20Out%20blog%20banner.png?itok=eXWRkgq1);"></div> </div> </div> </div> <div> <h4><span><span><span>Here at Ingrid Flute's Yorkshire Holiday Cottages we love a day out and about exploring and learning about our beautiful county of Yorkshire, and of course having fun along the way. Once one of the greatest monasteries in England it is a great place to stop on a day out with the family and Rievaulx Abbey and Helmsley Castle are both nearby too. There's nearly 30 different buildings to discover here, each one once housing Prisoners of War while the camp was active in the 1940s and now themed to tell their stories and those of life on the Home Front during WWII. The immersive displays here cover both social and military history, creating an archive that has grown into a resource of national historical importance.</span></span></span></p> <p> </p> <p><img alt="Whitby's 199 Steps leading to Whitby Abbey" data-entity-type="file" data-entity-uuid="0040f5d7-2d89-4c3f-8e96-172cf1c7bd0a" src="/sites/yorkshireholidaycottages.co.uk/files/inline-images/Whitby%20joined%20%281%29.png" /></p> <h3><span><span><span><span><span><span>Climb the 199 Steps and explore Whitby Abbey</span></span></span></span></span></span></h3> <p><span><span><span>Cath our Property Recruitment Assistant suggests that for a different day out, why not climb the famous 199 steps to reach the ruins of Whitby Abbey? Inspired by the Venetian Carnival the house was beautifully adorned with decorations and costumes of the characters of the famous Commedia dell Arte, Harlequin, Colombine, Pierrot and the Zanni Clown.</span></span></p> <p><span><span>We had a lovely lunch there, had a ride on the Kelly Car Land Train, did lots of shopping and even visited the garden centre where I bought my Christmas wreath.</span></span></p> <p><span><span>I hope you enjoy looking through my pictures.</span></span></p> <p><span><span>If you fancy visiting Castle Howard this year take a look at our cottages in the <a href="https://www.yorkshireholidaycottages.co.uk/york-vale-of-york">Vale of York</a> or on the <a href="https://www.yorkshireholidaycottages.co.uk/north-york-moors">North York Moors</a>.</span></span></p> <img alt="Castle Howard at Christmas" data-entity-type="file" data-entity-uuid="541ae6ad-a713-42db-81ab-cad43b646a35" src="/sites/yorkshireholidaycottages.co.uk/files/inline-images/1.jpg" class="align-center" /><img alt="Castle Howard at Christmas" data-entity-type="file" data-entity-uuid="15ae20f0-50c2-4196-9628-8061b97d0119" src="/sites/yorkshireholidaycottages.co.uk/files/inline-images/2.jpg" class="align-center" /><img alt="Castle Howard at Christmas" data-entity-type="file" data-entity-uuid="71acbecf-3515-47d3-89fe-11544321dc69" src="/sites/yorkshireholidaycottages.co.uk/files/inline-images/3.jpg" class="align-center" /><img alt="Castle Howard at Christmas" data-entity-type="file" data-entity-uuid="b7c3e4f4-4da6-44d0-b819-f7afb75a6ac1" src="/sites/yorkshireholidaycottages.co.uk/files/inline-images/4_0.jpg" class="align-center" /><img alt="Castle Howard at Christmas" data-entity-type="file" data-entity-uuid="187d68fe-13d4-435d-aaa0-31a8439ccf6d" src="/sites/yorkshireholidaycottages.co.uk/files/inline-images/5.jpg" class="align-center" /><p> </p> </div> <div class="field-wrapper field field-node--field-tags field-name-field-tags field-type-entity-reference field-label-hidden"> <ul class="field-items tocc__itemlist tocc__itemlist--inline" data-prefix="Tags"> <li class="field-item"><a href="/taxonomy/term/6" hreflang="en">Attractions</a></li> <li class="field-item"><a href="/taxonomy/term/34" hreflang="en">Christmas</a></li> <li class="field-item"><a href="/taxonomy/term/16" hreflang="en">Culture</a></li> </ul> </div> <a href="/taxonomy/term/5" hreflang="en">Places To Visit</a> <a href="/taxonomy/term/1" hreflang="en">Festivals &amp; Events</a> Wed, 08 Jan 2020 15:22:34 +0000 Ms Louise Burtt 804 at http://www.yorkshireholidaycottages.co.uk The Best Walks in Yorkshire http://www.yorkshireholidaycottages.co.uk/blog/2020/01/the-best-walks-in-yorkshire <span class="field-wrapper">The Best Walks in Yorkshire</span> <span class="field-wrapper"><span lang="" about="/user/1332" typeof="schema:Person" property="schema:name" datatype="">Ms Louise Burtt</span></span> <span class="field-wrapper">Thu, 01/02/2020 - 10:11</span> <div class="field-wrapper field field-node--field-banner-images field-name-field-banner-images field-type-image field-label-hidden"> <section class="block block-system block-system-breadcrumb-block"> <nav role="navigation" aria-labelledby="system-breadcrumb"> <span id="system-breadcrumb" class="visually-hidden">You are here</span> <ul class="oc-breadcrumb"> <li> <a href="/">Home</a> </li> <li> <a href="/taxonomy/term/5">Places To Visit</a> </li> <li class="current"><a href="#"></a></li> </ul> </nav> </section> <div class="field-items tocc__herobanner"> <div class="tocc__tile tocc__tile--large field-item"> <div class="tocc__tile__image" style="background-image: url(/sites/yorkshireholidaycottages.co.uk/files/styles/page_banner/public/2020-01/Blog%20banner.png?itok=46Tiyl9w);"></div> </div> </div> </div> <div> <h4>With its natural beauty of purple heather moorlands, rolling hills and craggy peaks, on these walks around Yorkshire you'll certainly see why Yorkshire is named God's Own County.</h4> <h2><img alt="View over the Hole of Horcum" data-entity-type="file" data-entity-uuid="29dfc671-10eb-478b-b074-5d093292bd1c" src="/sites/yorkshireholidaycottages.co.uk/files/inline-images/Hole%20of%20Horcum2.png" /></h2> <h2>North York Moors</h2> <h3>Levisham to the Hole of Horcum</h3> <p>The delightful picture postcard village of Levisham nestles in the North York Moors between Whitby and Pickering and is a fantastic starting point for this 6 mile walk which takes in grand landscapes and spectacular views of the beautiful moorland. If you park in the village and head up the lane on the right of The Horseshoe Inn pub you're soon on the open moorland. The walk has a couple of climbs such as up the side of the amazing Hole of Horcum; but the views are totally worth it! You then walk along a wide moorland track over the moors alongside an iron age dyke to Dundale Pond. Now it is a sheltered spot to rest for a few minutes before finishing the walk back to Levisham. The Horseshoe Inn is very welcoming with great food and well worth visiting for some well earned refreshments.</p> <p> </p> <h2><img alt="Aysgarth Falls in the Yorkshire Dales" data-entity-type="file" data-entity-uuid="b06e971a-922b-4423-820a-3e3064deaa92" src="/sites/yorkshireholidaycottages.co.uk/files/inline-images/James%20Herriot%20Way.png" /></h2> <h2>Yorkshire Dales</h2> <h3>James Herriot Way</h3> <p>Like millions of people worldwide you've probably read his books or watched All Creatures Great and Small on TV, and this walk is based on a walking holiday which the famous vet James Herriot took with his son Jimmy. The route is 52 miles long and is typically walked over four days but you can just do parts of it. The circular route starts at Aysgarth and showcases the best of the Dales through Swaledale and Wensleydale, including big sights such as Aysgarth Falls, Hardraw Force and Bolton Castle.</p> <p> </p> <h2><img alt="Staithes on the Yorkshire Coast" data-entity-type="file" data-entity-uuid="59910ec2-3599-4f10-8796-de4353778882" src="/sites/yorkshireholidaycottages.co.uk/files/inline-images/Staithes.png" /></h2> <h2>Yorkshire Coast</h2> <h3>Staithes to Port Mulgrave</h3> <p>The coastline of Yorkshire is full of drama and interest with chalky cliffs, smuggler's coves and wonderful wildlife. Take in the dramatic sea views on this 6.5 mile walk starting on the cliffs above the charming fishing village of Staithes, once the home of Captain Cook. Meander along to the quaint fishing port at Port Mulgrave. Climb down to the port if you fancy a quick detour to take in the amazing views before heading inland to Hinderwell and Borrowby Dale, where you can find traditional local pubs and cafes to enjoy some refreshments whilst on route.</p> <p> </p> <h2><img alt="Image of the Yorkshire Wolds" data-entity-type="file" data-entity-uuid="449af2e4-76e9-4501-99e4-bc82275a6a43" src="/sites/yorkshireholidaycottages.co.uk/files/inline-images/Yorkshire%20Wolds.png" /></h2> <h2>Yorkshire Wolds</h2> <h3>Thixendale to Wharram Percy</h3> <p>The Yorkshire Wolds are an area of peace and tranquility with unique rolling chalkstone landscapes and steep sided valleys; offering the perfect setting for long refreshing walks and providing the inspiration of many an artist and poet such as the likes of David Hockney. The picture perfect village of Thixendale is the starting point for this 7 mile walk, which is a relatively easier walk as it tends to cover the higher ground rather than the valley floors. The village itself is full of character along with a warm and welcoming pub and cafe, which is a great start or finishing point. A little detour off the circular route will take you to the lost medieval village of Wharram Percy, where only the historic church remains, and provides a fascinating location to explore. This once bustling village was largely wiped out by the Black Death in the 14th century.</p> <p> </p> <h2><img alt="Flamborough Head" data-entity-type="file" data-entity-uuid="45e69863-1c7a-453b-b6b0-20788f4ae7c5" src="/sites/yorkshireholidaycottages.co.uk/files/inline-images/Flamborough%20Head.png" /></h2> <h2>Yorkshire Coast</h2> <h3>Flamborough Head</h3> <p>Taking in ancient settlements, dramatic chalk cliffs, a light house and conservation area, this fascinating walk starts from the car park at Danes Dyke Nature Reserve and passes through Thornwick Bay. This is a breathtaking 9 mile walk along Yorkshire's finest coastline and boasts spectacular views of Bempton Cliffs and a huge variety of sea birds such as gannets and puffins can be both seen and heard en route. Eroded by the sea into some remarkable shapes, the chalk cliffs provide particular interest, with the cliffs at Flamborough Head being the most spectacular.</p> <p> </p> <p>View our walking holidays <a href="https://www.yorkshireholidaycottages.co.uk/yorkshire/activities/walking-holidays">here</a>.</p> <p> </p> </div> <div class="field-wrapper field field-node--field-tags field-name-field-tags field-type-entity-reference field-label-hidden"> <ul class="field-items tocc__itemlist tocc__itemlist--inline" data-prefix="Tags"> <li class="field-item"><a href="/taxonomy/term/20" hreflang="en">Walking</a></li> <li class="field-item"><a href="/taxonomy/term/24" hreflang="en">Countryside and Villages</a></li> <li class="field-item"><a href="/taxonomy/term/13" hreflang="en">Activities</a></li> </ul> </div> <a href="/taxonomy/term/2" hreflang="en">Things To Do</a> <a href="/taxonomy/term/5" hreflang="en">Places To Visit</a> Thu, 02 Jan 2020 10:11:25 +0000 Ms Louise Burtt 794 at http://www.yorkshireholidaycottages.co.uk A birthday walk on the North York Moors http://www.yorkshireholidaycottages.co.uk/blog/2019/09/a-birthday-walk-on-the-north-york-moors <span class="field-wrapper">A birthday walk on the North York Moors</span> <span class="field-wrapper"><span lang="" about="/user/1332" typeof="schema:Person" property="schema:name" datatype="">Ms Louise Burtt</span></span> <span class="field-wrapper">Fri, 09/13/2019 - 12:16</span> <div class="field-wrapper field field-node--field-banner-images field-name-field-banner-images field-type-image field-label-hidden"> <section class="block block-system block-system-breadcrumb-block"> <nav role="navigation" aria-labelledby="system-breadcrumb"> <span id="system-breadcrumb" class="visually-hidden">You are here</span> <ul class="oc-breadcrumb"> <li> <a href="/">Home</a> </li> <li> <a href="/taxonomy/term/5">Places To Visit</a> </li> <li class="current"><a href="#"></a></li> </ul> </nav> </section> <div class="field-items tocc__herobanner"> <div class="tocc__tile tocc__tile--large field-item"> <div class="tocc__tile__image" style="background-image: url(/sites/yorkshireholidaycottages.co.uk/files/styles/page_banner/public/2019-09/hole%20of%20horcum.png?itok=IiHZhvz0);"></div> </div> </div> </div> <div> <p><span><span><span><span><span>Hello, it's Sarah here from Ingrid Flute's Yorkshire Holiday cottages. </span></span></span></span></span></p> <p><span><span><span><span><span>It's my birthday today and as part of the Original Cottages family we don't work on our birthdays. There's so much fun to be had throughout Yorkshire but some of my favourite places are the <strong>Jorvik Viking Centre</strong> in York, the <strong>Sea Life Centre</strong> in Scarborough and the traditional amusement arcades in some of Yorkshire's wonderful seaside towns. For exhilarating rides I'd spend a day at <strong>Lightwater Valley</strong> theme park near Ripon or <strong>Flamingo Land</strong> theme park near Malton. Or for a more unique attraction I'd explore the labyrinth of tunnels and walkways at <strong>The Forbidden Corner</strong> in Leyburn Yorkshire Dales.</p> <h2><img alt="Flamborough Head" data-entity-type="file" data-entity-uuid="c4766b6c-1075-4bab-ba86-db869eefc7ea" src="/sites/yorkshireholidaycottages.co.uk/files/inline-images/short%20break6.png" /></h2> <h2>WALK</h2> <p>I'd put on my walking boots, get out and about and discover Yorkshire's wealth of natural beauty. On my way for a walk along the glorious sandy beach at <strong>Saltburn-by-the-Sea </strong>I'd stop off on the North York Moors for a wander around the reservoir at <strong>Scaling Dam</strong>, or I'd venture over to <strong>Flamborough Head </strong>to spot puffins and other fascinating wildlife. Over in  <strong>Bronte Country</strong> I'd walk the <strong>Pennine Way</strong> to Top Withens and explore the inspiration for Wuthering Heights.</p> <h2><img alt="Pannett Art Gallery" data-entity-type="file" data-entity-uuid="9082aa6c-d7f3-4f78-9ac2-8a346109f4bf" src="/sites/yorkshireholidaycottages.co.uk/files/inline-images/short%20break7.png" /></h2> <h2>ADMIRE</h2> <p>I'd indulge in my love of art and discover an array of creativity throughout Yorkshire. From the breathtaking sculptures at the <strong>Yorkshire Sculpture Park </strong>to the fine art on display at the <strong>Mercer Gallery</strong> in Harrogate and the constantly changing selection of local art at <strong>The Herriot Gallery</strong> in Hawes. Located within beautiful settings the <strong>Inspired By</strong> gallery at The North York Moors National Park Centre, the <strong>Pannett Park Art Gallery</strong> in Whitby, the canal-side gallery of <strong>Mill Bridge </strong>in Skipton and <strong>The Station</strong> in Richmond set within a beautiful riverside Victorian railway building are also all well worth a visit.</p> <h2><img alt="Shop for local delicacies" data-entity-type="file" data-entity-uuid="f134483e-2786-4521-bdac-832b04647eb8" src="/sites/yorkshireholidaycottages.co.uk/files/inline-images/short%20break8.png" /></h2> <h2>SHOP</h2> <p>You can't come to Yorkshire without treating yourself to some of the amazing local produce on offer in the boutique shops, market stalls and delicatessens across the region. I personally love the unique pieces of jewellery crafted using black <strong>Whitby Jet</strong>, so I'd head to Whitby's old town cobbled streets to find my favourite piece. I'd then browse some of the local markets and delicatessens to pick up some homemade delicacies to enjoy back in my cottage after a busy day out and about. Two of my favourite Yorkshire delis have to be <strong>Weetons in Harrogate </strong>and <strong>Hunters of Helmsley.</strong> I also love browsing the little <strong>market in Leyburn</strong>, held every Friday, as well as the handmade chocolates from <strong>Inspired Chocolate</strong>.</p> <h2><img alt="Cycle around Dalby Forrest" data-entity-type="file" data-entity-uuid="080da3a1-834f-47cb-994d-43f81dada0fc" src="/sites/yorkshireholidaycottages.co.uk/files/inline-images/short%20break3.png" /></h2> <h2>GET ACTIVE</h2> <p>I know holidays are meant to be relaxing but I always find I need something to blow the cobwebs away on my break, so I'd head to <strong>Dalby Forest</strong> in the North York Moors and enjoy a walk or ride along one of its numerous trails. There's also a <strong>Go Ape </strong>treetop challenge there if you're feeling adventurous. The <strong>Cinder Track </strong>from Whitby to Scarborough is another favourite of mine for a bike ride or walk, taking in some beautiful scenery and coastal villages such as Robin Hoods Bay and Ravenscar along the way. If you're looking for something a bit more exhilarating then <strong>How Stean Gorge </strong>near Harrogate is great for gorge walking, potholing and rock climbing, or <strong>Camphill Estate Bedale</strong> has quad biking, clay pigeon shooting, 4x4 off road driving experiences and zip wires.</p> <h2><img alt="Magpie Cafe Whitby" data-entity-type="file" data-entity-uuid="bba86e8c-0f33-4e9f-9572-d8e9b71eafd5" src="/sites/yorkshireholidaycottages.co.uk/files/inline-images/short%20break9.png" /></h2> <h2>EAT</h2> <p>As a bit of a "foodie" a weekend away for me is often centred around good food, whether it be tea and cake in the afternoon or a slap up meal in the evening. For delicious homemade cakes I'd head to <strong>KTea's Tearoom</strong> in Leyburn, <strong>Botham's </strong>in Whitby and of course the famous<strong> Bettys</strong> tearooms. A visit to the Yorkshire Coast wouldn't be complete without fish and chips from <strong>The Magpie Cafe</strong> or <strong>Trenchers </strong>in Whitby. For a special occasion I'd definitely choose to dine at the 3AA rosette restaurant at <strong>Yorebridge House</strong> in Bainbridge, <strong>The Angel at Hetton</strong> near Skipton or the Michelin-starred <strong>Black Swan at Oldstead.</strong> And for something a bit different there's also the fantastic Pullman dining train, where you can enjoy afternoon tea or dinner on board the <strong>North York Moors Steam Railway</strong>.</p> <h2><img alt="Refreshing drink in the pub" data-entity-type="file" data-entity-uuid="c0d198b3-3458-46aa-9f65-3b97cbb27b54" src="/sites/yorkshireholidaycottages.co.uk/files/inline-images/short%20break5.png" /></h2> <h2>DRINK</h2> <p>Yorkshire is well known for its brewing tradition and you can enjoy many a brewery tour around the region at the <strong>Black Sheep Brewery </strong>in Ripon, <strong>Theakston Brewery</strong> in Masham and the <strong>Cropton Brewery </strong>on the North York Moors, amongst many others. If you're after a pint with a view then <strong>The Lion Inn at Blakey Ridge</strong> on the North York Moors has scenery on another level, but be careful not to get cut off by snow if visiting in winter! <strong>The Green Dragon Inn Hardraw </strong>is also worth stopping off at on the way to visiting the stunning Hardraw Force waterfall. I myself prefer a G&amp;T or a cocktail, so I'd have to recommend somewhere like the <strong>Moon &amp; Sixpence</strong> which overlooks the beautiful harbour in Whitby.</p> <h2><img alt="Rose Cottage, Huggate" data-entity-type="file" data-entity-uuid="54c369fa-d25b-412c-bf0a-ae074794ab4d" src="/sites/yorkshireholidaycottages.co.uk/files/inline-images/shortbreak2.png" /></h2> <h2>SLEEP</h2> <p>Whether it's a long weekend away or a mid-week refresher we've got plenty of great cottages for you to choose from.
