Places to visit in Northumberland
With its superb sandy beaches and stunning National Park countryside, Northumberland is an excellent destination for a holiday. There are many wonderful places to visit so make sure you allow plenty of time to explore this great county.
Some of our favourite days out include a trip to Lindisfarne, also known as Holy Island, which you get to across the sands at low tide, and a boat trip to the Farne Islands, a National Nature Reserve where you can see puffins and seals on this unspoilt wildlife haven. We also recommend a visit to the World Heritage Site of Hadrian's Wall.
Alnwick Castle, the second largest inhabited castle in England and home to Harry Potter’s Hogwarts School, is another fantastic day out for families and lovers of history or pay a visit to Hexham Abbey or Bamburgh Castle for amazing architecture.
Walking on the National Trail path which runs alongside the length of the wall gives the opportunity to see the various Roman sites as well as great landscapes.
