Newton On Rawcliffe cottages
Newton on Rawcliffe is a pretty village within the North York Moors National Park and close to Cropton Forest. The village is on the top of one of the valley sides of Newtondale, one of the stunning dales that is characteristic of the southern area of the Moors. The North Yorkshire Moors Railway runs through the bottom of the valley, with Levisham Station and Newtondale Halt within easy reach of the village. Within the village is a pub, the Black Swan locally known as The Mucky Duck, and a village pond.
This is a great location for exploring the moors, especially for walkers and cyclists. There are a number of trails you can follow both over the moorland and through the nearby forestry. The nearby villages of Cropton, Rosedale Abbey and Egton Bridge are all worth a visit and offer a choice of tearooms and pubs.
The market town of Pickering is four miles away and here you can find all the usual amenities and a number of great visitor attractions. Within an hour's drive you can enjoy the delights of Whitby and Scarborough on the coast, as well as the historic city of York.
