Area Information
Grosmont
The quaint village of Grosmont is a great area for walkers with many stunning trails and footpaths taking you from the village through breathtaking countryside and onto other moorland villages and towns. The town is famous for being a stop on the North Yorkshire Moors railway which runs from the village to the nearby town of Pickering, allowing you to see the beauty of the moors from the comfort of a steam train. There is also the Esk Valley line that runs from Grosmont to the coastal town of Whitby in the summer months. Whitby is the nearest town to the village at just under 7 miles away, making Grosmont an excellent base for exploring the moors and the Yorkshire coast. Whitby has an excellent selection of shops, restaurants and bars however you don't need to leave Grosmont to pick up your essentials, the village's local co-op shop is the oldest of it's kind still serving today and specialises in selling local Yorkshire produce and groceries. There's also a variety of independent shops where you can pick up a souvenir or gift and even an art gallery where you can admire the work of local Yorkshire artists such as Robert Brindley and Ailsa Nichilson. After a day out walking in the moors what better way to replenish your energy than enjoying a slice of cake and a coffee in one of Grosmont's many tearooms.
