Great Fryup Dale cafe is also just a short walk and has the most stunning views, wood burning stove, locally sourced food and great local coffee. The cafe also serves a cooked breakfast and other delicious homemade meals, snacks and cakes. The bike shop/ bike hire just a short walk away.

Fryup Dale is a picturesque, peaceful hamlet in North Yorkshire set around breathtaking countryside of the North York Moors and is one of the dales of the Esk Valley. The Coast to Coast trail runs at the top of the dale. Fryup is thought to have derived from 'frigga' an old English personal name and 'up' or 'hop' meaning valley. It is an ideal location for walkers and looks to the eye like a patchwork quilt made up of walls, hedges farms and a few houses and cottages. Whitby is only 11 miles. Coastal villages, Staithes (CBeebies favourite Old Jack's Boat is filmed here), Runswick Bay and Sandsend to name just a few are 20 to 30 minutes drive away. Goathland (Heartbeat's Aidensfield), Helmsley and Pickering (home to the North York Moors Railway) are also within driving distance. The iconic Lion Inn at Blakey, which is the highest pub on the moors is only a 10 minute drive - please call in, if only to see the photographs of the snowdrifts that the pub experiences in severe winters, but also for the excellent food which is served all day. The historic city of York is only one hours drive, making Fryup Dale a perfect location for exploring the Moors, the coast and the Yorkshire heritage.
