In this digital age, we have invested heavily in our online promotion to ensure that tech savvy customers have a quick, easy to use, and satisfying experience with our websites and social media channels. But we know that not all our visitors want to book their holiday in this way, so we still produce paper based marketing pieces and actually like nothing better than speaking to people on the phone to make sure the accommodation they book is suitable for them.  Read on to find out more about the various marketing and promotions we do to maximise bookings for our owners.

Our website is our most important marketing tool and we have recently launched this version of the site to ensure it is fully responsive, which means that it will automatically resize depending on what size device the user has. So, whether you have a desktop pc, laptop, tablet or smartphone, our website will be displayed in the best way, ensuring all content and search facilities are easy to access and use. We work very hard to ensure that we present our holiday properties accurately and that holidaymakers can find lots of information about the area, places to visit, events and other attractions to encourage them to book with us.

As one of the Original Cottages Family, we are able to promote your property in more ways than are normally available to self-catering agencies. One example of this is that every one of the cottages in our portfolio is listed on the Original Cottages website, as well as our own. This website features all the properties from our sister agencies around the country, giving holidaymakers a wide choice of accommodation that encourages them to book within The Original Cottage Company group, enabling us to market to them in the future.

As an independent self-catering agency we work with other independent and family owned agencies to promote our properties together, getting your accommodation more exposure. This relatively new website features all the properties with The Original Cottage Company, plus those with other local agencies.

We work with lots of Affiliate websites to maximise exposure of your holiday cottage. Some of these online channels have a regional focus, such as i-know-yorkshire, while others promote specific types of booking, for example Snaptrip specialises in last minute breaks. In summary, working with our Affiliate partners means your property will be promoted on lots of different websites at no additional cost to you.

We regularly send Direct Emails to our extensive database of holiday-makers. Engaging images and content are used to appeal to groups of customers, encouraging them to book. Using our state-of-the-art CRM system we ensure that our mailings only go to targeted customer groups interested in your property.

Although most of our customers book online now, we never forget about those that prefer more traditional communications. We still use Direct Mail to tell holiday-makers about our properties and the stunning areas that they are in and offer them the opportunity to send a free-post form for their personalised brochure to ensure that no-one misses out on our fantastic cottages.

Our Inspirational Brochure

The annual brochure has always been an important element of promoting the properties we have, but as more people use the Internet to search and book their holiday accommodation, the benefits of this type of brochure have become limited. To respond to this we produce an inspirational brochure which showcases the types of properties we offer and the areas we cover, and direct people to the website to for more information and to book. Alternatively, they can submit the freepost form at the back of the brochure to us to receive a Personalised Brochure to suit their needs.

This allows us to showcase all our cottages to customers both offline and online and ,rather than inundating customers with pages of unsuitable properties, this brochure can be tailored to their specific requirements on a bespoke basis. The advantages of this approach are that our customers get up to date information and prices, plus any special offers that are available.

Here, we utilise a mix of engaging "lifestyle" content with property-focused posts updating our followers on new properties and special offers. We also regularly run successful paid advertising campaigns across targeted networks to ensure the maximum number of bookings for you.

We undertake an extensive range of online and offline advertising throughout the year. This includes promotion on major search engines to ensure we come up on the search results when people are looking for holidays online. Offline, our adverts feature in national, regional and local newspapers and magazines throughout the year. We also work with PR professions and regularly have our properties featured in national and regional newspapers.


Other marketing

In addition to everything listed above, we have a number of other marketing tactics that are very successful. We have a branded vehicle that looks great out and about through the dales, vales, moors and coast. We put signs in cottage windows so that it is very clear to passers-by that they can book the property through us. And most of us walk around with postcards promoting the agency, so we can leave them in shops and restaurants, cafe's and information centres at every opportunity.
