This themed accommodation is a dream for a couple of railway aficionados, with its homage to the bygone era of steam locomotives. It’s in a convenient location only 6 miles from Harrogate, the popular spa town known for its Turkish Baths and traditional tearooms. Wake up to gorgeous countryside views from this secluded spot alongside a former steam train line. Nearby, you can visit the 14th-century Ripley Castle (4 miles) or venture into Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (1.5 miles) for wonderful scenic walks with your loved one.

Beautifully restored and decorated, the accommodation is brimming with thoughtful train-themed touches to keep you amused during your stay: a station master’s waistcoat, themed soft furnishings and blinds, and station signs from years gone by. A curved panel ceiling and elegant wooden fittings create a stylish rustic appearance, while metallic and colourful touches uplift the space. The lounge area features two leather armchairs, perfect for enjoying the views of the surrounding woodland, while the double bed nestles into one end of the carriage. Outside, relax on the charming patio, reminiscent of a station platform of yesteryear. Bistro-style garden furniture creates the perfect spot for sunny breakfasts and evening BBQs, as you listen to sounds of nature from the ancient woodland nearby.

You’ll have a pub and a coffee shop within 0.5 miles in nearby Hampsthwaite, and plenty more shops, cafes and restaurants in Harrogate. If you’re into hiking and cycling, you’ll be spoilt for choice, with miles of trails starting right from your doorstep. Local beauty spots you may like to explore include Nought Moor (9.5 miles), where you can walk through majestic woodlands and alongside meandering rivers, and Gouthwaite Reservoir (12 miles) where there’s a 6-mile circular trail you can follow. The cathedral town of Ripon (11.5 miles) is also a wonderful option for a day trip.

The Goods Wagon was a fantastic space for a short break. The creative character and the attention to detail were stunning. The accommodation was welcoming, comfortable and very well kitted out. The location was peaceful without feeling remote and there was plenty to do in the area. We will definitely be returning next year.

Fantastic quirky place to stay. Had everything you need, comfy bed, two arn chairs, tv, toilet, shower, single hob, microwave oven (no oven though, but we took our air fryer), small fridge, pots, pans, crockery, cutlery, bbq, outside table & chairs, reclining chairs for outdoors. Lovely peaceful location, plenty of bird song. Nice pub within (20 miRead morens) walking distance. Handy for walks in the Yorkshire Dales. Owners were friendly and helpful, and their sausage dog, Gus, was fun to play with. Hide

Lovingly restored, cosi, but comfi little railway cabin. We stayed for a weekend, going out cycling every day and it was a pleasure to return, have a nice warm shower and enjoy the evening in the local pub or by the side of the cabin. Nice touch, that owl hooting at night. :)
