Scoresby House was the original residence of the world famous whalerCaptain William Scoresby Inventor of the crows nest. He held the record for travelingthrough the artic pack ice to the most northerly point in the artic.
On his travels he returned to Whitby with a Polar Bear which he kept as a pet in the ship yard next to the river (See if you can spot a Polar Bear in the town centre?).
