Set within the peaceful village of Ampleforth, this end-of-terrace stone cottage makes a wonderful base for couples or small families looking to explore North Yorkshire. Blending original character, such as exposed beams, with contemporary finishes, the property balances period charm with everyday comfort.

Inside, the cottage opens directly into a snug sitting room where a wood burner and Smart TV sit alongside comfortable seating, creating a welcoming spot for evenings after time in the great outdoors. Exposed ceiling beams add extra character, adding to the cottage’s traditional feel. To the rear, the kitchen and dining area is bright and airy thanks to dual-aspect windows, with a layout suited to everything from leisurely breakfasts to evening meals shared together. A door leads directly from here out to the courtyard. Upstairs, two well-presented bedrooms are arranged across the first floor – a king-size room at the front with sash windows and a feature panelled wall, and a double bedroom overlooking the courtyard. A sleek shower room completes the interior layout. Outside, the enclosed, walled courtyard is furnished with a bistro table and chairs, making it a pleasant spot for a morning coffee or a sun-downer. Free on-street parking can be found nearby, subject to availability.

From here, days out are easy to plan, with Byland Abbey (2.5 miles) close by for a glimpse into England’s monastic past, the bustling market town of Helmsley (5.5 miles) offering independent shops and cafes, and Ripon (22 miles) home to a striking cathedral and lively market square. The sweeping scenery of the Nidderdale National Landscape lies within 24 miles, while York (22 miles) brings medieval streets, historic landmarks and a wide choice of places to eat and browse.

Overall this pretty little cottage has been tastefully furnished with pretty soft furnishings and a comfortable and workable sized kitchen that is well equipped. Cute little courtyard that is a real sun trap and lovely for a g&t before dinner! A couple of negatives ( but we believe we were the first guests in & so hope that these aid the owner Read moreas if no one tells her she wont know). The storage heaters arent brilliant and are controlled remotely by the owner - not ideal to have to keep contacting her. We had a problem with hot water but believe this will be sorted for future guests. Note - there is no washing machine at this property. There was one in the blurb when we initially booked - it has since been removed from said blurb. Bed in main bedroom- not the comfiest mattress and very squeaky bed! All in all a very well presented property and a great base for exploring this beautiful part of our county. The welcome hamper was a really lovely touch & much appreciated! As were all the little things like cooking oil, salt & pepper mills, coffee pods - those little touches really helped Parking is on street and can be a wee but tricky as the neighbouring properties are quite protective over their spaces and one neighbour even puts mini cones out to prevent parking in front of their house - only a problem when wanting to unpack or pack up the car. I believe that once the teething problems that we experienced are dealt with, this will be a superb property and we hope that our feedback is taken as constructive and not negative as this property owner deserves to do really well.
