Six of us had a lovely week at Thorn Ghyll. We were a mixed party from ages 24 to 84 and we all loved the house and the garden. There is plenty of comfortable seating in both the lounge and the conservatory and the dining table made a lovely spot to congregate and chat. The main shower had really good water pressure and easy to use. Everywhere was Read moreclean and tidy, all equipment in good working order. Plenty of electrical sockets. Comfortable beds and plenty of pillows. Depending on your cooking arrangements (we tend to cook full meals on holiday) the kitchen could have used a few more pans and serving-type and pasta bowls but with a bit of ingenuity and make-do we coped. There was plenty of mugs, glassware and cutlery. As we visited in September the local pub didn't open til 5 on weekdays and was shut some days but we had already researched this, the drive to Bedale or Masham was so convenient it wasn't an issue for us. Access to either of these villages was very easy and both have lots of facilities. Can definitely recommend a visit to Cockburn the Butchers, Thomas the Bakers and House and Home (everything you never knew you needed until you visited here!). The garden is secure for most dogs if they aren't a terrorist cocker spaniel ! She kept popping through to next doors garden via the stream (apologies to the neighbours). And there are a few small gaps in the surrounding hedges/fence, something to be aware if you do have small dogs. We would definitely book again at Thorn Ghyll for both the house and the location. A lovely property in a lovely quiet village, with friendly locals and a good pub with good food. In a central location with easy access to anywhere. The property was big enough that we all had space but was also homely, cosy and comfortable with everything needed for a home away from home - even a washing machine which is a big bonus for me.
