This charming cottage makes a great holiday base for a small family, or even two couples to explore the wonders of the Peak District National Park ā the first designated in England, back in 1951. Cleverly refurbished, this stone-built property combines characterful cottage features (think exposed beams, casement windows and vaulted ceilings upstairs) with slick modern decor and furnishings. Once you step inside the sleek open-plan living space, youāll instantly hit holiday mode.
Downstairs, the contemporary kitchen has a sizeable island where you can sit and eat, relax or chat to the chef, but thereās also a dining table next to the super comfortable lounge area with its wood burner and large, corner sofa. Exposed, old beams and low ceilings help this space retain its cottage vibe, while offering supreme comfort. The two generous king-size bedrooms are both upstairs with en-suite shower rooms for that added touch of privacy and luxury. Thereās a good-sized private patio with dining furniture outside for whiling away leisurely hours with a cup or glass of something.
The tranquil rural setting of this cottage, on the outskirts of Totley, offers countryside and footpaths all around, plus two pubs within 0.5 miles. But, Sheffield city centre is a mere 6.5 miles, if you fancy an urban fix. But itās surely got to be all about the Peaks: Padley Gorge is a picturesque spot for walking, with its pretty burbling brook and woodlands (6.5 miles). The landmark hill of Mam Tor is 16.5 miles away. The picturesque town of Bakewell is 11 miles, where you can buy a pudding and tick that one off your list. Or plan a day out at country estates like historic Chatsworth House (9.5 miles) or Haddon Hall (13.5 miles). But do try to set off early to beat the crowds.
