Surrounded by the rolling countryside of rural North Yorkshire, this charming cottage is an inviting retreat for a solo traveller or couples seeking time together. There are so many options for things to do nearby, from outdoor adventures to historic sites, and your evenings can be spent either enjoying the views from the stunning garden or relishing the warming flames of the wood burner in the lounge.

Comfortable and full of character (including some internal steps), the cottage has wonderful rural views from almost every window. At its heart is the welcoming lounge, where soft seating is arranged around a wood burner. With a Smart TV where you can stream your favourite shows, this is a cosy setting in which to completely unwind. The kitchen is neatly designed for everyday cooking and includes a washing machine for convenience. At bedtime, cottage-style stairs lead into the restful double bedroom, which has a wooden bed and yet more of those gorgeous views. Completing the interior is a bathroom which includes a shower over the bath. The peaceful country garden is definitely a place to linger, with a private decked area for morning coffee or sunset drinks, and outdoor seating for al fresco meals cooked on the BBQ.

Ampleforth is set between the Howardian Hills National Landscape and the North York Moors National Park, making this a perfect destination for anyone interested in walking, cycling or exploring other outdoor pursuits among some of the most beautiful scenery in the country. Head to the ruined monastery of Byland Abbey (2.5 miles) for an intriguing day out, or to Fountains Abbey (27.5 miles) for more abbey ruins and an awe-inspiring water garden.
