Whether you're planning a romantic escape or a solo adventure, this charming stone-built retreat offers the perfect base 300 metres from the heart of Helmsley – the only market town in the North York Moors National Park. After a day of discovery, return home to the warmth of the wood burner in the open-plan living space or relax with a sundowner in the private patio garden.

Inside, the lounge/kitchen/diner is bright and inviting, with exposed stone walls, original timber beams, and pitched ceilings that create a real sense of space. Skylights fill the room with natural light by day, while the wood burner keeps things toasty in the evenings. The compact kitchenette is well-equipped for simple meals, with a dining area adjacent. The king-size bedroom continues the tranquil feel with calming tones, bespoke fabrics, and crisp linens. An en-suite shower room completes this self-contained hideaway. Outside, your own gravel garden with bench seating is a peaceful space to start the day with a morning coffee or wind down with a sunset drink. There’s also a handy dry store for muddy outdoor gear, and secure gated parking for one car.

Nearby, wander into the bustling market square to explore independent boutiques, enjoy coffee and cake in one of the many tearooms, or sip a drink in a traditional pub. If you're visiting on a Friday, the local craft and food market is a must-see. Uncover the history of Helmsley Castle or take a peaceful stroll to the stately Duncombe Park with its sweeping parkland. Alternatively, join the Cleveland Way or Ebor Way, which are ideal for walkers and cyclists looking to explore the moors. Just returned from a 3 night break at Little Barn (Cosy Barn). Absolutely beautiful accommodation. Decorated and furnished to a very high standard, with lovely character features. Excellent, peaceful location, whilst being just minutes from the centre of Helmsley and all its amenities. Helpful little touches like milk, tea bags, coffee and biscuitsRead more on arrival. Extremely comfortable bed and great shower room. Outdoor seating in a little suntrap area. Great communication from the owner. Fabulous place, would highly recommend and definitely plan to return again. Hide

Helmsley is a lovely location, but we felt the accommodation in the cosy barn didnt live up to its advertised features, e.g. not bespoke bed linen and limited equipment to cook with.

Lovely location for visiting the surrounding area. Cottage quiet with good parking. Very comfortable bed but sofa a little hard. Lack of a microwave and clothes storage in bedroom. Overall we had a very enjoyable week staying here.

Lovely stay in The Little Barn. Small, but perfectly formed with everything we needed; especially a comfy bed and fabulous shower, in a peaceful, tucked away, location . Ideal for walking, with The Cleveland Way and Duncombe Park on the doorstep. Hosted by Helen, who is lovely!

Lovely cottage in a perfect location for spending time in Helmsley and using the bus. Cottage well equipped and comfortable, the owners have also put together a useful information pack for places to visit and good eating places.

We had a lovely few days at the Little Barn. The barn was just perfect for a couple. We would recommend it as a perfect base to visit not only the town but also the beautiful countryside and many towns in easy reach. We would certainly stay here again.
