A peaceful retreat perfectly placed for exploring the South Pennines, Brontë Country, and the Yorkshire Dales, this lovely cottage makes a cosy base for solo travellers, couples, or a small family, complete with a warming fire and private garden. Nestled between Halifax and Sowerby Bridge, you’ll be well-positioned to discover both natural beauty and cultural landmarks.

This traditional cottage is part of a 17th-century farmhouse. Inside, original features lend character and charm with wooden beams, an inglenook fireplace, exposed stone walls, and a mullioned window. Step into the spacious lounge/diner, a light-filled room with a parquet floor, flame-effect gas fire, and restored pine doors. Share meals at the dining table overlooking the garden, then relax on the comfortable sofa (which converts to a single bed for an additional guest) and enjoy a film on the Smart TV. A few steps lead into the separate kitchen, which is well-equipped for preparing everything from hearty breakfasts to homely suppers. Upstairs, you’ll find a landing with a desk and room for a travel cot. The super-king-size bedroom (which can be set up as a twin on request) is light and spacious, with ample storage and a decorative Victorian fireplace. A stylish family bathroom rounds off the interior. Outside, the south-facing, enclosed garden boasts views over the Calder Valley and Wainhouse Tower. With seating at both ends of the garden, al fresco dining is a breeze. Nearby on-street parking is subject to availability.

Lace up your walking boots and head out from the front door to discover scenic strolls to the nearby canals, Skircoat Moor, Scarr Bottom Woods, and the disused railway line that leads to Ripponden. 350 metres away, Wainhouse Tower – believed to be the tallest folly in the world – offers panoramic views for those willing to climb its 369 steps.
